LG CNS will develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based language learning service, joining hands with a local foreign language education firm, the IT service affiliate of LG Group said Wednesday.

The company said it signed a memorandum of understanding with YBM NET to create an AI-based English, Chinese and Japanese language learning platform for smart devices within 2019.

“LG CNS completed the development of an AI-based English learning platform with an AI tutor in June. Based on the platform, the two companies will develop a smartphone app that enables users to learn three foreign languages,” an LG CNS official said, adding the smartphone app will be available at both Google Android and Apple iOS smartphones.

Using its own text-to-speech technology, the AI tutor service measures the English speaking ability of its users and assists them to improve their speaking skills because it can understand the context of conversations with users and recognize how fluently the users can speak the target languages.

Given the education company has a vast database of materials related to foreign language education, YBM NET will be responsible for the educational content of the English, Chinese and Japanese learning programs.

“In cooperation with YBM NET, which has been leading the country’s foreign language education market, LG CNS aims to offer a language learning service that can truly increase the academic growth of users,” the company said.
