Kakao to launch ‘Legendary Moonlight Sculptor’ Oct. 10
Kakao Games will launch “Legendary Moonlight Sculptor” through Google Play and Apple App Store, Oct. 10, the company said Wednesday.
The new mobile massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), developed by XLGames, has been cited as one of the potential blockbuster mobile titles to be released in the last quarter of the year.
Kakao Games announced the release date during a media conference held in Seoul.
“The slogan of the game is the dream of adventurers,” Kakao Games CEO Cho Kye-hyun said. “Kakao Games and XLGames are working hard to offer a game service that can be enjoyed by anyone.”
“Legendary Moonlight Sculptor” is based on the best-selling fantasy series of the same name. The series, authored by Nam Heesung, has been published serially from 2007 to July this year, and has 58 volumes.
In addition to the popularity of the series, the game is drawing attention as it has been developed by XLGames CEO Jake Song, a “star” game developer who was involved in the development of Nexon’s “Tale of the Wind” and NCSOFT’s “Lineage.”
Song co-founded Nexon with Kim Jung-ju in 1994. Then, he moved to NCSOFT and led the development of the PC online game “Lineage” before founding XLGames.
“While developing Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, I recalled 20 years ago when I began developing MMORPGs,” Song said.
“I tried to make a retro-style game that can provide enjoyment for anybody. I hope the game will be loved by gamers for a long time.”
The new game will offer five characters including an archer, a magician and a warrior, in addition to a variety of areas in which players can participate in combat, such as the Cave of Dead Warriors.
The core content of the game is various sculptures, each of which offers a specific ability.
Kakao Games said the game has already received a flurry of interest from users, noting that it has received more than 2.5 million preorders, which began last month.
