Winners of 8th Multicultural Youth Awards announced
The Korea Times has selected 14 students as winners of the eighth Korea Multicultural Youth Awards.
The winner of the grand prize, to be presented by the minister of gender equality and family, is Kim Jae-yeol from Hyunpung High School in Daegu.
Born to a Korean father and Chinese mother, Kim has shown excellence academically and in classical music performances, winning multiple government-sponsored awards.
Oteri Sarang from Seoul Misung Elementary School received the special jury award, while another elementary school student, Hahn Hae-lim from Baeksin Elementary School in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, won the Semoon Chang Award that is given to a child with excellent foreign language skills.
Lee Kwang-an from Hae Mill School in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, was the winner of the Asian Friends Vietnam Scholarship,
which is sponsored by Asian Friends and is only given to ethnic Vietnamese people.
Kang Yun-ho from Suseong Middle School in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, won the BMW Korea Future Fund award, sponsored by BMW; and Kim Eunsoo from Seoul Aero Business High School was the winner of the EDGC award, sponsored by EDGC.
Two outstanding students each from elementary, middle and high schools also won awards, while another two were selected in the volunteer category.
The award ceremony will be held Nov. 21 at the Korea Press Center in central Seoul.
