Win­ners of 8th Mul­ti­cul­tural Youth Awards an­nounced

The Korea Times has se­lected 14 stu­dents as win­ners of the eighth Korea Mul­ti­cul­tural Youth Awards.

The win­ner of the grand prize, to be pre­sented by the min­is­ter of gen­der equal­ity and fam­ily, is Kim Jae-yeol from Hyun­pung High School in Daegu.

Born to a Korean fa­ther and Chi­nese mother, Kim has shown ex­cel­lence aca­dem­i­cally and in clas­si­cal mu­sic per­for­mances, win­ning mul­ti­ple gov­ern­ment-spon­sored awards.

Oteri Sarang from Seoul Misung Ele­men­tary School re­ceived the spe­cial jury award, while an­other ele­men­tary school stu­dent, Hahn Hae-lim from Baeksin Ele­men­tary School in Goyang, Gyeonggi Prov­ince, won the Se­moon Chang Award that is given to a child with ex­cel­lent for­eign lan­guage skills.

Lee Kwang-an from Hae Mill School in Hongcheon, Gang­won Prov­ince, was the win­ner of the Asian Friends Viet­nam Schol­ar­ship,

which is spon­sored by Asian Friends and is only given to eth­nic Viet­namese peo­ple.

Kang Yun-ho from Suseong Mid­dle School in Su­won, Gyeonggi Prov­ince, won the BMW Korea Fu­ture Fund award, spon­sored by BMW; and Kim Eun­soo from Seoul Aero Busi­ness High School was the win­ner of the EDGC award, spon­sored by EDGC.

Two out­stand­ing stu­dents each from ele­men­tary, mid­dle and high schools also won awards, while an­other two were se­lected in the vol­un­teer cat­e­gory.

The award cer­e­mony will be held Nov. 21 at the Korea Press Cen­ter in cen­tral Seoul.
