Me­dia pro­jec­tion show to light up DDP at year-end

Dong­dae­mun De­sign Plaza (DDP) will be­come a big screen for a mixed me­dia show of light, video and mu­sic, dur­ing the year-end hol­i­day sea­son.

Ac­cord­ing to Seoul Met­ro­pol­i­tan Gov­ern­ment and Seoul De­sign Foun­da­tion, Thurs­day, a pro­jec­tion show ti­tled “DDP Light” will be pre­sented on the fa­cade of the build­ing from Dec. 20 to Jan. 3.

The theme of the 16-minute event will be “Seoul Hae­mong.” In English hae­mong can be trans­lated as “dream read­ing,” and the pro­jec­tions will fea­ture past, present and fu­ture im­ages of Seoul and Dong­dae­mun based on pho­tos col­lected from cit­i­zens.

Re­fik Anadol, a renowned me­dia artist from Tur­key, will take charge of the im­ages and Min Sey, a Korean me­dia art di­rec­tor, will be the chief di­rec­tor.

Dur­ing the event, a Christ­mas mar­ket, per­for­mances, sem­i­nars and work­shops will also be held, as well as a count­down on New Year’s Eve.

The city gov­ern­ment aims to hold DDP Light ev­ery year to de­velop it into a rep­re­sen­ta­tive night event for the tourism in­dus­try like Vivid Syd­ney in Aus­tralia, invit­ing me­dia de­sign­ers from Korea and abroad.

“DDP Light is a piece tak­ing ad­van­tage of DDP’s unique ex­te­rior,” Choi Kyung-ran, CEO of the foun­da­tion, said in a press re­lease.

“We’ll make it part of a night tour for the win­ter sea­son when the num­ber of tourists is rel­a­tively small, cre­at­ing a light fes­ti­val that will lead the de­vel­op­ment of the DDP area.”
