Nordic colleges host Korean Studies Days
The Nordic Korean Studies Days lecture series is currently underway, organized by the universities of Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm and Turku. Lectures on a variety of interesting topics are being held online, and all are welcome to join.
Tonight, Soo Ryon Yoon of Lingnan University will discuss Burkina Faso dancer Koula Kan’s work in Korea starting at 5:15 p.m. (KST), and at 8:45 p.m., Amos Farooqi at the University of Copenhagen will introduce his research on the underground hiphop scene in Gwangju. Tomorrow at 5:15 p.m., Mikyoung Kim of Pukyong University will give a talk titled, “In the shadows of K-culture: Korea’s Sex Industry,” and at 8:45 p.m., Farrah Sheikh of Keimyung University will give a talk titled, “Recycling European Narratives in South Korea’s ‘Refugee Crisis:’ Islamophobia, #MeToo, and Yemeni Refugees on Jeju Island.” Friday will feature lectures by Hannes Mosler of the University of Duisburg-Essen on Korea’s presidential election and by Javier Cha of Seoul National University on big data’s role in the Korean humanities.
