‘Crazy Love’ to offer hilarious romance
Actors Kim Jae-wook and Jung Soo-jung, the leads of KBS’ new romantic comedy series, “Crazy Love,” expressed their hope of offering a strong comedy to viewers with their new series.
“What I hope to hear as feedback to ‘Crazy Love’ is that they had a good laugh watching the series through this spring,” Kim said during an online press conference for the series, Monday.
“For the past two years, it has been a tough situation with the pandemic globally. And as I’ve been looking for a project that will help people get their minds off reality and just laugh, I came across ‘Crazy Love.’”
Directed by Kim Jung-hyun, who led the 2017 rom-com series, “Jugglers,” the drama, which premiered Monday, revolves around a narcissistic math lecturer and CEO Noh Go-jin (Kim) and his assistant Lee Shin-ah (Jung).
Noh runs the top educational institution and is good at his job, but he is far from being likable due to his conceited, prickly personality. Lee is the only assistant who has managed to stay with him for over a year.
One day, Noh receives an anonymous death threat, whereas Lee finds out that she is diagnosed with a terminal illness, which only gives her a year to live. Blaming Noh for her stress and illness, she plans to take revenge on him.
The series’ director, who could not join the press event after testing positive for COVID-19, said through a statement that the series will offer a mixture of diverse genres.
“This series, as the title says, is about people who are madly in love. For some, it’s money and for others, it’s a dream, or unrequited love, or its revenge,” he said.
“’Crazy Love’ blends in different genre stories so I tried not to limit ourselves to just being a rom-com when making it … instead, the cast members and I talked a lot about expanding our spectrum.”
Kim added that his character will be different from the previous roles he played. “I felt like (playing this character) allowed me to show acting which I’ve never done before and I had so much fun with it,” he said.
Lee, who plays an introverted, hard-working assistant, noted that the two actors will show the great chemistry that they developed in the series.
“We hit it off pretty well from the beginning, in terms of acting. I felt so comfortable acting with Kim and we were both good at playing out each other’s improvised lines,” she said.
“Crazy Love” airs Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. on KBS.
