LG CNS has renamed its artificial intelligence (AI)-based English education app as Buttertime to attract more users, according to the company, Monday.

The company said it changed the app’s name from Mission English to Buttertime with an aim to help users improve their English pronunciation.

Through the mobile app, Buttertime users can study English conversation anytime and anywhere using the AI program that has learned tens of thousands of English sentences.

“Its users can use 741 English conversation lessons for free; 371 sentences consist of content that can be used in daily life and travel, such as ordering food at restaurants, explaining symptoms at the hospital and exchanging money when traveling,” a spokesperson of the company said, adding that the app can be customized according to the user’s English skills.

In addition to Buttertime, LG CNS has operated various AI-based English tutoring services such as Speaking Class, which enables English teachers to create their own versions of English lessons and Toast, which specializes in preparation for the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) exam.

Its AI tutor service has been used by around 170 companies, the company added. “Many companies including LG Group’s affiliates as well as the distribution, finance and construction sectors are using the AI tutor service to train their employees’ English skills. The service has been approved by the Korea Association of Teachers of English (KATE) for the first time among domestic English learning services,” the company said.
