LG Energy Solution (LGES) has been trying to make the world more eco-friendly and support socially marginalized groups by allowing its employees to participate in various volunteer activities, the battery manufacturing unit of LG Group said Monday.

In 2023, its employees collectively did 12,000 hours of volunteer activities, donating a combined 180 million won ($135,000) to those in need.

Hamsori, the company’s team of employees participating in volunteer works, conducted activities at child care centers in Seoul, Daejeon and Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, while picking up litter and planting trees.

The team’s members also learned photography and flower arrangement during the first half of last year to use the skills for the betterment of society during the second half.

“Hamsori enables its members to do volunteer work and improve their skills related to their hobbies,” an LGES official said. “By allowing our employees to keep volunteering, we have continuously motivated them to make social contributions.”

Last September, the battery maker’s employees spent five days building houses for residents of Wajanaya, a village located on the Indonesian island of Java. In particular, they used recycled plastic and eco-friendly bricks for the construction of residential facilities.

The company has also come up with various measures for getting its employees interested in volunteering.

For example, its teams and divisions can choose other teams to participate in volunteer activities, once they finish their own volunteer work. In addition, LGES installed kiosks for its employees to make donations for as much as they want by tapping their employee cards on the machines.
