- By Jung Da-hyun dahyun08@koreatimes.co.kr

Donghae City Government in Gangwon Province announced Monday that it will offer KTX travel packages throughout March in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and KORAIL, operator of the bullet trains, marking a month for travel.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the KTO, has designated March as the month for travel.

This initiative aims to provide substantial discounts on transportation and travel products, primarily in non-metropolitan areas, to enable visitors to experience the charms of traveling local regions.

Tourists keen on exploring restaurants, major tourist destinations and other places in the region can receive support ranging from 90,000 won ($67.62) to 200,000 won through the KTX-taxi package.

Individuals can also get up to 50 percent discounts on KTX train rides throughout March by opting for weekday packages. Reservations can be made through letskorail.com.

In addition, people can participate in an event featuring souvenir giveaways by sharing their hidden travel destinations on social media, except for major attractions like Chuam Beach, Mureung Valley and Mangsang Beach.

These offerings are in line with tourism trends observed last year, showcasing a rise in small-scale travel utilizing KTX trains on the route between Donghae and Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul.

Meanwhile, travel packages designed for the month of travel will be available until April 14, with reservations to be accepted until March 29.

“As the government actively promotes March as a month of travel, Donghae will also respond proactively to tourism demand by developing differentiated events and tourism products, offering various entertainment options and attractions for tourists,” said Lee Sun-woo, head of the tourism department at Donghae City Government.
