The Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra, led by the newly appointed associate conductor Kim Kyung-soo, is welcoming the spring with “Tomorrow.” The energetic nature of the new season will be portrayed via a dynamic and genre-crossing repertoire that features not only the traditional Korean orchestral music, but also vocalists of “pansori,” rap and rock.

In an innovative blend of literature and “pansori” (traditional Korean musical storytelling), Lee Ja-ram revitalizes Ernest Hemingway’s timeless classic, “The Old Man and the Sea.” A celebrated figure in the traditional Korean music scene and the lead of Amado Lee Jaram Band, the vocalist is renowned for her dynamic pansori adaptations of plays and novels, including Gabriel García Márquez’s “Bon Voyage, Mr. President.”

Modern Chunhyang Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center

A modernized “pansori” (traditional Korean musical storytelling) performance will be held in
Daejeon, adding a theatrical twist to the classical folktale of “Chunhyangga.” The performance comprises a blend of dramatic acting with songs from both the original pansori repertoire and early 20th-century popular music scene — such as “Bindaetteok Gentleman.”
