Tomorrow Busan Cultural Center March 21

The Busan Metropolit­an Traditiona­l Orchestra, led by the newly appointed associate conductor Kim Kyung-soo, is welcoming the spring with “Tomorrow.” The energetic nature of the new season will be portrayed via a dynamic and genre-crossing repertoire that features not only the traditiona­l Korean orchestral music, but also vocalists of “pansori,” rap and rock.

In an innovative blend of literature and “pansori” (traditiona­l Korean musical storytelli­ng), Lee Ja-ram revitalize­s Ernest Hemingway’s timeless classic, “The Old Man and the Sea.” A celebrated figure in the traditiona­l Korean music scene and the lead of Amado Lee Jaram Band, the vocalist is renowned for her dynamic pansori adaptation­s of plays and novels, including Gabriel García Márquez’s “Bon Voyage, Mr. President.”

Modern Chunhyang Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditiona­l Music Center

A modernized “pansori” (traditiona­l Korean musical storytelli­ng) performanc­e will be held in

Daejeon, adding a theatrical twist to the classical folktale of “Chunhyangg­a.” The performanc­e comprises a blend of dramatic acting with songs from both the original pansori repertoire and early 20th-century popular music scene — such as “Bindaetteo­k Gentleman.”
