POSCO Future M, the chemical unit of POSCO Group, and Pohang Steelers, the steelmaker-owned professional football club which plays in K League 1, offered a special football training session for children in the southeastern port city on Sunday.

Before its third-round clash with Gwangju FC at the Pohang Steel Yard football stadium in North Gyeongsang Province that day, players from the Pohang Steelers squad served as coaches for young children.

The players taught them how to pass, dribble and control the ball. The players and children also took photos together.

The children were also invited to look around the locker room and the press room at the Pohang Steel Yard. In addition, the children were allowed to walk onto the field through the tunnel that the players use.

On the pitch, the players and the children played a mini-match together.

“I’m glad that I participated in this meaningful event which can contribute to the local community and the future generation,” Pohang Steelers midfielder Kim Jun-ho said. “Although it was a short period of time, I had a great time with the children, communicating with them through football.”

Since December last year, POSCO Future M and Pohang Steelers have been holding football training sessions twice a month for 50 children at eight child care centers in Pohang.

POSCO Future M explained that it started the training sessions for children so that they can develop physical strength and learn about teamwork.

The football club’s coaches have therefore not only taught football skills to the children but also carried out programs to build up their physical strength. The chemical firm has provided funds for facilities, uniforms, equipment, vehicles and food.

“Through the football classes, we hope children will grow into healthy individuals having the spirit of teamwork and fair play,” a POSCO Future M official said. “Our company will continue to seek various ways to support future generations.”
