Dyson has unveiled its new Supersonic Nural hair dryer in Korea for the first time in the world as James Dyson, founder and chief engineer of the home appliance maker, introduced the product, which is designed to protect the scalp by automatically adjusting the heat applied to hair, the founder said Monday.

For the product’s unveiling event, the founder visited Korea for the first time in five years since 2019 to introduce the product and demonstrate it on a hair model. This is the first time the founder visited the country specifically for a new product announcement.

Dyson introduced the company’s history of developing hair products and future plans, and then demonstrated the Supersonic Nural developed with the company’s unique sensor technology.

“If you’re able to limit heat damage, you can get a healthier scalp and healthier hair. Our new Supersonic Nural has a time of flight sensor which recognizes your head and reduces the heat as it gets close to your hair, preventing heat damage to both your scalp and your hair,” Dyson said during a press conference in Seoul.

The key feature of the Supersonic Nural is its time of flight sensor as it automatically measures the distance between the product and the hair, reducing the heat as it gets closer to the hair to protect the scalp and hair from heat damage.

As the product gets closer or farther from the scalp, the color of the LED lighting changes, maintaining the blown air temperature at a constant 55 degrees Celsius. Dyson said that this temperature is optimal to protect the scalp while efficiently drying hair.

Along with this product, the company also provides eight different nozzles that can be used for various stylings as the user wishes. The Supersonic Nural remembers the styling mode frequently used by the user, recalling the last used temperature and air speed.

Additionally, the founder introduced a pause detection feature that reduces the blown air and temperature to almost a zero level when the dryer is put down and then resumes when picked up.

“Innovation only comes from investing in research and development. Our obsession to truly understand the root of the problem continues, as we build up some of the most sophisticated hair laboratories in the world,” the founder said.

Dyson said the new Supersonic Nural hair dryer goes on sale starting Monday on its official website and in stores nationwide. The product is priced at 599,000 won ($450).
