Netmarble unveiled its new action role-playing game Solo Leveling: ARISE, adapted from the popular web novel, to drive new growth through the release, the company said Tuesday.

Netmarble said the game will be launched globally in May and will be playable on both mobile devices and PCs. This game has already garnered significant attention globally, including in the North American region, even before its release, thanks to the high popularity of the original webtoon’s anime adaptation released in January.

“Today, I am pleased to introduce Solo Leveling: ARISE, the first game to faithfully recreate the fun of the massively popular webcomic ‘Solo Leveling’ as an action RPG, developed by Netmarble Neo based on the webtoon [intellectual property (IP)],” Netmarble CEO Kwon Young-sig said.

“We have developed the game as an action role-playing game that suits the ‘Solo Leveling’ IP, optimized for PC and mobile, based on our development capabilities,” Kwon added. “We will provide the best action and fun.”

“Solo Leveling” had already achieved tremendous popularity, with its comic version of the original novel recording 14.2 billion views before the animated version was released earlier this year.

“‘Solo Leveling’ animation, which is currently being streamed worldwide, is gaining huge popularity. This means the ‘Solo Leveling’ IP is expanding, and so is the potential user base for our game,” the CEO said.

Solo Leveling: ARISE allows players to become the protagonist Sung Jin-woo of the original novel, enabling them to enjoy stylish combat, Netmarble said. Players can experience the original storyline in Story Mode, becoming the only entity in the universe who can level their skills up, becoming a powerful hunter.

The company has enhanced visual elements with its interpretation of scenes from the comic version that depict the story and dialogue, Netmarble added.

The company said it plans to conduct various online and offline events before and after its official release to increase the lifecycle of its new game. After the launch, it plans to hold offline competitions where players can vie with each other.
