LG and Samsung SDI are taking part in the 37th International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS37) in Seoul, showcasing EV battery technologies and the latest mobility technologies, the companies said Tuesday.

EVS, which began in 1969, is known as the Olympics of the EV world, bringing together key international players from the EV industry and academic researchers. Korea is hosting this year’s four-day event, which takes place in Seoul from Tuesday to Friday, for the third time, following the event being held in Busan in 2002 and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province in 2015.

LG Group has opened a promotional booth jointly through its four affiliates that are responsible for its automotive business — LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, LG Display and LG Innotek — exhibiting technologies and products related to EV batteries and future mobility.

LG Group aims to provide a comprehensive view of core technologies and products in the automotive industry, including batteries, powertrain systems, key components for autonomous driving such as cameras and LiDAR and in-vehicle displays to around 1,500 EV experts from 60 countries and officials from about 200 international mobility companies visiting the event.

Additionally, I.P. Park, president of LG Sciencepark, will give a keynote speech on the topic of Delivering Future Mobility, and its researchers will share research results on topics such as software-defined vehicles and analysis of EV battery performance degradation.

“Joining the event is an opportunity

for LG affiliates operating in battery and electronic systems to demonstrate the group’s LG’s stature in the EV sector,” a spokesperson for LG Corp., a holding company of the group, said. “We will keep strengthening our capabilities to create business synergies.”

LG Energy Solution, the battery unit of LG Group, will be showcasing customizable pouch-type batteries and cylindrical batteries; cell-to-pack technology to make lighter and safer batteries with high energy efficiency and the B-Lifecare service that optimizes battery performance and lifespan.

LG Electronics will be presenting its premium EV infotainment systems and an automotive content platform that allows passengers to enjoy high-quality videos and games inside the vehicle.

LG Magna e-Powertrain, a joint company between LG Electronics and Magna International, will reveal its products such as the high-speed hairpin motor that can produce 250 kilowatt output using 800 volts.

LG Display is exhibiting in-vehicle display products such as advanced thin OLED (ATO) for increased brightness, durability and freedom of display design, 3D instrument clusters that eliminate the need for separate glasses and viewing angle control technology.

LG Innotek is presenting vehicle cameras, sensing products, communication modules and lighting products.

Samsung Group’s battery unit Samsung SDI aims to emphasize its outstanding technological capabilities through the EVS37 by showcasing

innovative technologies, including solid-state batteries, which it plans to mass-produce in 2027, and battery technologies.

Regarding technology, Samsung SDI will be displaying battery technologies for ultra-fast charging and a longer lifespan. The company said it plans to develop ultra-fast charging technology that can charge up to 80 percent in just nine minutes by 2026, and battery technology that can last 20 years by 2029. Batteries with this technology are scheduled to be mass-produced in 2029, according to the company.

Samsung SDI will be demonstrating to visitors solutions to prevent battery thermal runaway by minimizing heat transfer between batteries and technologies that increase energy density while reducing costs.
