CICI’s contests to find new ideas to represent Korea

- By Park Jin-hai jinhai@koreatimes.co.kr

The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI) is hosting contests to find new ideas and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images to represent Korea. The “New Korea — Ideas” and “Korea Image Created by AI” contests are held ahead of the CICI’s annual Culture Communication Forum (CCF) 2024.

The “New Korea — Ideas” contest seeks for fresh and globally appealing contents to portray Korea that will capture the world’s attention in the years to come.

Instead of conventional content such as K-pop, K-drama, “hansik” (Korean food), “hanok” (traditional Korean house) and “hanbok” (traditional Korean attire), participants are encouraged to submit ideas from various fields that have potential to make a global impact representing Korea.

For the “Korea Image Created by AI” contest, applicants should create and submit images that effectively represent Korea using AI. Images can be themed in various fields, including food, tourism, music and film, without genre restrictions.

Both contests are open to Korean and foreign nationals aged 18 and over and should submit their works until June 10. The CICI selection committee will review the works and select one winner for each category — Grand Award, Excellence Award and Incentive Award — based on onsite voting on the day of the CCF on June 24.

The winner of the Ideas contest will receive a prize worth 3.5 million won, while the winner of the AI Image contest will receive a prize equivalent to 2.5 million won.
