Samsung Display EVP awarded for contribution to OLED technologies
Samsung Display Executive Vice President Yi Chung was chosen as one of the six winners of the special recognition award from the Society for Information Display (SID) for distinguished and valued contributions to the information display field, the Korean company said Monday.
SID explained that Yi was honored with the award for his contributions to the premium OLED display field, as well as his development of technologies for high-resolution OLED displays and hybrid oxide poly-silicon (HOP), which is used to improve power efficiency of premium smartphones.
The award ceremony will be held during the Display Week exhibition to be held in the U.S. from Sunday to Friday, where the SID award-winning papers will be announced.
Samsung Display said that four teams of its researchers were also awarded by the SID this year for writing distinguished papers.
Ha Jae-kook and his teammates received an award for a paper introducing a process to print quantum dots (QDs) like ink, increasing the possibility of commercializing QD light-emitting diode (QD-LED) displays, which enables more accurate color representation.
Another team of Samsung Display researchers led by Kim Taewoong was awarded for a paper introducing their development of materials, structure and process related to thin film transistor, which is key for flexible displays with extremely small bending rates.
Lee Dong-hyun and his teammates also received an award for a paper titled “Backside Bonding for Extremely Narrow Bezel at the Bottom of Flexible Displays,” while Jung Woo-hyun and his teammates won an award for a paper titled “Direct Laser Patterning of Glass Mask for Micro Display Using GHz Bursts.”
“We are proud to prove Samsung Display’s technological leadership in front of display experts from all around the globe,” Samsung Display Executive Vice President Lee Chang-hee said. “We will continue making efforts to come up with unprecedented technologies and lead innovations.”
