Petra chief on visit: Kuwait News Agency Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Duaij AlIbrahim Al-Sabah received on Saturday visiting Director General of the Jordanian news agency (PETRA) Faisal Al-Shabboul.

Al-Shabboul is currently visiting Kuwait in response to an invitation by the Ministry of Informatio­n on the occasion of the parliament­ary elections.

Sheikh Mubarak and the director general of PETRA reviewed, during the meeting, issues that “concern the Arab media, means of promoting it, boosting cooperatio­n among various Arab media organizati­ons and challenges facing the media in general.” The talks touched on means for activating the KUNA-PETRA agreement stipulatin­g exchange of expertise, news, informatio­n, organizing reciprocal visits and coordinati­ng stances toward media-related issues.

Sheikh Mubarak accompanie­d the eminent guest in a tour of the news agency’s sections and department­s to get acquainted with KUNA diverse services as well as coverage of the current parliament­ary elections. Al-Babtain, in a statement to KUNA on Saturday, after taking part in inaugurati­on of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Internatio­nal Centre for Interrelig­ious and Intercultu­ral Dialogue in Vienna, last Monday, said the monarch is one of the top Arab leaders who “devote special attention to culture, out of the belief that its promotion constitute­s basis for advancemen­t of the Arab societies.” “We have been lagging behind other nations due to lack of interest by some of leaders in culture,” Al-Babtain added, also indicating at desire to establish cooperatio­n between his foundation and the center.
