Rome to host Green GP: The streets of Rome will be the backdrop for a race in the new Formula E world championship in 2014, it was announced on Saturday.
The series is being backed by McLaren which is supplying cars powered exclusively by electric energy. The Formula E championship has the full support of motor racing’s governing body the FIA.
FIA president Jean Todt said: “It gives me great pleasure to be in Rome for this exciting announcement that the eternal city has expressed its firm interest to host a race in the Formula E 2014 championship calendar.
“The contrast between this innovative motorsport series and the rich ancient history of Rome is one I am sure the public and the media will be intrigued and enriched by.”
Rome is the second city in the world to welcome the FIA Formula E Championship following Rio di Janeiro’s announcement in August this year. (AFP) Carroll out for eight weeks: West Ham striker Andy Carroll will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury, manager Sam Allardyce confirmed on Saturday.
Carroll, on a season-long loan with the Hammers from Liverpool, sustained the injury in the second half of Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.
England international Carroll has endured a difficult time at Upton Park, scoring just once in 10 games for Allardyce’s side and missing a month of action at the start of the campaign due to a hamstring injury. (AFP)
