‘Kuwait attaches special concern to Balkans’
TIRANA, Dec 2, (KUNA): The representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Minister of Communications and Minister of State for Social Affairs Salem Al-Utheina, stressed that Kuwait attaches special attention to the Balkans due to its faith in its regional and international role.
This came in a statement by Al-Utheina to KUNA after his meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha in Tirana, with the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Republic of Albania, Najeeb Abdulrahman Al-Bader, attending.
Al-Utheina stressed the deep-rooted relations between the State of Kuwait and Albania, noting that the country has witnessed a remarkable shift since the fall of the communist dictatorship and the beginning of the democratic system since 1990.
In addition, he mentioned the activities of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) since 1993 in promoting infrastructure projects, especially in the fields of irrigation, transport and roads.
Al-Utheina conveyed the congratulations of HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince and HH the Prime Minister to the Albanian leadership, government and people on Albania’s centennial independence day, wishing them continuous progress and prosperity.
He reviewed ways of enhancing bilateral relations between both countries in a framework of a desire by the two leaderships for the implementation of common goals and aspirations.
He noted that both countries went through bitter occupations after which they realized the brutality of aggression and its impact, which led to blocking the development process, yet taught them as well to learn to look forward to the future.
The Albanian people struggled for the realization of sovereignty and independence, which they achieved by the combined efforts and their dedication in order to defend the freedom of their homeland, said Al-Utheina.
For his part, Prime Minister Berisha expressed pride in the deep brotherly relations with Kuwait, stressing their strength, which improved after the fall of the communist dictatorship, and that Kuwait was at the forefront of the countries that have contributed to support Albania.
The prime minister expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Kuwait’s support of the development process of his country, praising HH the Amir’s sincere effort in strengthening the ties between the two countries and adopting the plan reconstructing the main square in Tirana.
Berisha concluded by welcoming Kuwait to join Albania in developing prospects of cooperation in all aspects.
