Runners join Hyundai Runkuwait Support Run

Event held for benefit of autistic children

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 26: Runners in Kuwait participat­ed in the Support Run on Monday which was part of the ongoing five-day Hyundai RunKuwait 2013 under the patronage of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah which kicked off on Saturday from Abdaly (KuwaitIraq border) in the northern part of Kuwait. The Support Run was held for the benefit of the autistic children at the Applied Behaviour Centre (ABC).

Hyundai RunKuwait 2013 team leader Yousef Al-Qanai along with his running mates has embarked on a five-day journey and will be running the distance of 240 kms from the northern border to the southern border of the country, nearly 50 kms a day until Feb 27. He is accompanie­d by his fellow runners Muna AlWazzan, Bader Al-Failakawi, Fahad Al-Ibrahim, Reem Al-Awadi , Mohammed Hassan and Ahmed Mousa from Egypt. The relay team is on rotation and will change every five kilometres while the remaining four accompanyi­ng them are riding a Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 model, provided by the Northern Gulf Trading Co.

The Support Run that was open to the public started from the Kuwait Scientific Centre and ended at the Asnan Tower on Belajat Road covering a distance of three kms with the participat­ion of the Hyundai RunKuwait runners.

At the finish line, a reception was held at the Asnan Tower for over 200 participan­ts and supporters of the event. Dr. Abdullah AlAli from the Applied Behavior Center (ABC) thanked all the runners and sponsors for their support as he outlined to them the conditions and challenges that an autistic child goes through. He also greeted everyone on the occasion of Kuwait’s national day.

On the other hand, Al-Qanai spoke to the crowd recounting the history of RunKuwait which was first held in February 2012, when he and his fellow runners ran from the northern border to the southern border of Kuwait as a symbol of determinat­ion, willpower, and teamwork.This year it has been renamed to Hyundai RunKuwait 2013 and is sponsored by the Northern Gulf Trading Company, Ali Abdulwahab & Sons through its Nike Stores as well as Asnan Tower and Mada Communicat­ion as golden sponsors. He thanked everyone for supporting the event with a good cause.

After the Support Run, Al-Qanai and his fellow runners resumed running towards Mishref where they set camp. On Tuesday, runners got back on their journey from Mishref and ran along the Fahaheel Expressway and rest at the Fahaheel area. Runners are expected to complete their journey on Wednesday by reaching the Kuwait- Saudi Arabia border. Details of the run can be checked online on www.runkuwait.com.
