Dashti invites S. Korean firms to partake in devt

Kuwait seeks to renew MOU with KDI

SEOUL, Feb 26, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of State for Planning and Developmen­t Rola Abdullah Dashti invited Tuesday South Korean companies to contribute to the developmen­t projects in Kuwait.

Minister Dashti told KUNA that it made the invitation during a meeting with Chairman of Korean Electric Power Corporatio­n (KEPCO) which provides total integrated engineerin­g, procuremen­t and constructi­on (EPC) services.

She called on the KEPCO to increase its investment­s in Kuwait and to participat­e in the developmen­t projects tenders.

KEPCO designed and built a total of 14 nuclear power plants using their own technology, including the developmen­t of APR1400 next-generation nuclear power plant. The company has also designed and built over 40 coal power plants and combined cycle and cogenerati­on plants.

The Minister also held talks with Vice- President of the Korean Developmen­t Institute (KDI) Kim Joo-hoon on cooperatio­n between the Kuwaiti government and the prestigiou­s institute.

Since its inception in 1971, the KDI, has been recognized as a leading think tank of Korea significan­tly contributi­ng to the economic and social developmen­t of Korea.

For over three decades, KDI has consistent­ly provided policy recommenda­tions and guidance based on in-depth analyses of internatio­nal and domestic economic conditions and projection­s while conducting preemptive and empirical studies.

The KDI is in partnershi­p with 33 world countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman.

“Kuwait had signed a memorandum of understand­ing with the KDI, but it expired and the government is seeking to renew it,” Dashti told KUNA.
