Govt will inevitably impose fees on services, say sources
Al-rashid reveals his vision to tackle bureaucracy
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 26: In response to a recent statement by the Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Mustafa AlShamali through which he declared that the government will not impose fees for services currently, but governmental sources revealed that the decision to do so will be approved inevitably in the future, reports AlRai daily.
They indicated that the plan to privatize the transportation sector as well as some oil sectors is the main trigger for the decision to impose such fees.
They revealed that the parliament intends to approve this decision, indicating that reports from the International Bank, vision of the Higher Planning Council and opinion of Tony Blair Team were also factors that pushed the approvals of this decision.

They stressed that it is not logical for residential buildings, commercial complexes, hotels and resorts to pay the same for electricity, adding that the gas cylinders provided for citizens will be different from the ones distributed to restaurants and companies in terms of price and capacity.
They said they wondered why fees for services such as drivers’ licenses issued for nonKuwaitis, health insurance and so on were not increased.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Ali Al-Rashid revealed his vision to tackle bureaucracy, which impedes the progress of developmental projects particularly the vital ones that require finalization soon.
He explained that one of his ideas is to establish a special authority that includes representatives from the concerned institutions such as Municipality, ministries of Public Works, Housing Affairs, Electricity and Water, and Interior under one umbrella.
He added that the other idea is to approve a draft law for each developmental project submitted by the government to exempt it from all required licenses.
