KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27: MP Sadoun Hamad Al-Otaibi told reporters inside the Parliament building, the government has no justification to demand postponement of the grilling request which he has filed against the Minister of Oil Hani Hussein.

He added this grilling request is different from previous requests and should not be postponed. He also said next Sunday he will conduct a rehearsal of the grilling.

He requested his colleagues not to vote to postpone the grilling as it happened in the case of two other requests - the interpellations against ministers of Interior and Communications which were filed by MPs Faisal AlDuwaisan and Hussein Al-Qallaf.

He said his grilling request contains serious and important issues about violations that should be brought into the open.

On the same issue, MPs Khaled Al-Shulaimi and Khaled Al-Shatti stressed on the need to support every MP to use his/her supervisory tool.

Al-Shatti said the grilling tool should be activated and not suppressed through postponements. He added, although they may have differences over the context of the grilling, lawmakers should use this tool every time they see faults in the government.

Al-Shulaimi called on his colleagues to review their decision and postpone the grilling requests, although the issues of corruption should not be overlooked.

He added he respects the current prevailing opinion but no one should submit any interpellation request during the current legislative round but give the government an opportunity to work and make achievements. He added, he personally supports any MP to use his supervisory tool.

On another issue, member of Human Rights and Bedoun Committee MP Abdul-Rahman Al-Jeeran said any one who carefully looks at the murder crimes that have been commit- ted in Kuwait over the past five years will find most of these crimes are committed by young men.

The motives require urgent approval of a security strategy that takes into account the psychological, social, religious, economic and political dimensions to promote the culture of tolerance and refrain from extremism - either ideological or behavioral.

He added this also requires the civil society institutions to discuss this problem that has started raising concern on the safety of the society by agreeing on a work program that would identify the flaws and propose solutions.

He called on the Ministry of Interior to play its role and live up to its responsibilities “and know the extent and the nature of the security challenges that a small country like Kuwait is facing and know how to address them to ensure stability of the society.”

Meanwhile, MPs Nabil Al-Fadhel, Mubarak Al-Nejada, Khalil Abdullah Ali, Adel Jarallah Al-Kharafi and Hisham Al-Baghli have presented a draft bill to establish a ‘Public Authority for Specifications, Standards and Quality’ to be under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The bill explained the objectives of the authority include the establishment of a national system for specifications and standards and match the assessment and accreditation in accordance with the international standards and practices keeping pace with the scientific development in the specifications and standards fields and matching of assessments and accreditation and enchantment of the infrastructure for the quality in Kuwait - providing health and environmental protection and public safety for consumers - ensuring quality of national products and contribute in easing international trade through removal of technical obstacles in the commercial operations.

According to the bill, the Specifications and Standards Department and Quality Labs Department in the Public Authority for Industry shall be relocated to the ‘Public Authority for Specifications, Standards and Quality’ as well as the employees working in these two departments.

The bill also stipulates that the regulations and bylaws being observed in the departments will be used in the authority until they are cancelled or amended by the authority according to its law and byelaw.
