Kuwait embassy in India celebrates National Days
NEW DELHI, Feb 27, (KUNA): The Kuwait embassy in New Delhi organized a grand function to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the Kuwaiti National Day and 22nd anniversary of the Kuwaiti Liberation Day.
India’s Minister of External Affairs E. Ahmed graced the occasion as Chief Guest, even as ambassadors, diplomats, foreign dignitaries and selected luminaries from different sections of the Indian society attended the gala function.
Soon after Minister Ahmed’s arrival and ceremonial welcome by Kuwaiti diplomats and attaches, the National Anthems of both Kuwait and India were played on the occasion.
The guests and other invitees then proceeded for dinner, which consisted of soft drinks, a wide variety of Indian and Western cuisine and an assortment of sweets.
The Indian minister spoke glowingly about the traditional and warm ties that India and Kuwait share. “India and Kuwait have always shared warm, traditional and deep ties, which have been growing and strengthening over the years. In fact, during a recent meeting between delegations of the two countries, the situation in Syria was discussed, and we had a good dialogue on the way forward on the issue,” Ahmed said.
He further revealed that the governments of the two countries were engaged in high-level exchanges, some of which had been going on for decades.
When asked how he saw relations between the two countries in the immediate future, Ahmed said he foresaw better and brighter ties, and added that there were a couple of things in the pipeline. He added that a Joint Commission Meeting would take place between the two countries in April, the dates for which would be finalised in due course.
Speaking to the media, Kuwait Ambassador Sami Al-Sulaiman also described India as an important country and commercial destination. “At this moment, we are working on high-level visits and exchanges with the aim of strengthening relations. Two weeks from now, the minister in charge of the Royal Court of Kuwait will visit India. The Joint Commission Meeting will take place in Kuwait in April this year,” the envoy said.
According to him, India is the second highest importer of oil from Kuwait, and that the Government of Kuwait and other Gulf countries see India as an important investment destination. He also praised the contribution of the expatriate Indian community in Kuwait in all walks of life. He concluded by saying that relations between the two countries were progressing along expected lines in different areas.
