Arab journalist heads ‘Foreign Correspondents Club of S. Asia’
New team of office bearers for 2013-15 elected
NEW DELHI, Feb 27, (KUNA): Senior Arab journalist based in New Delhi for more than three decades, Dr Waiel Awwad, has been elected as the new President of the prestigious Delhi-based “Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia”.
A Syrian national, Dr Awwad is currently the South Asia Bureau Chief of Al-Arabiya TV Channel (Dubai Media City).
The new team of office bearers elected for the 2013-2015 term also includes KUNA’s (Kuwait News Agency) India Correspondent Pankaj Yadav (as member of the Managing Committee).
Another Arab journalist who got elected among the new office bearers includes Omar Achy of the Magareb Arab Press (MAP) as member of the Managing Committee.
The other office bearers of the renowned media club are: Baldev Kapoor (VicePresident), Hari Kumar Tyagi, a reporter with the New York Times (Treasurer), and Ragavendra Verma, correspondent with International News Services (Secretary).
The Managing Committee members are: Omar Achy (MAP), Nita Bhalla (Thomson Reuters Foundation), Karuna Madan (Yomiuri Shimbun), PM Narayan ( ARD German Television), Siddharth Srivastava (News Asia International), and Pankaj Yadav (Kuwait News Agency).
The FCC is a club whose more than 500 members are journalists and photographers covering South East Asia, Tibet, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. The club was founded in 1958, and has since been the most prestigious press club in India. It is frequented by news-makers and leading dignitaries from India, South Asia and other foreign countries.
