‘Environment Park’ destroyed few hours after official opening
KISR expert expresses disappointment
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: Some unidentified youths wreaked havoc in Yarmouk Environmental Park a few hours after its official opening on Wednesday.
Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) researcher Noura Jendil expressed disappointment, saying whoever committed the destructive act is an ignorant that lacks awareness on the importance of environment protection and beautification. She said the damage is minor and easy to fix but “it is disgusting for anybody to simply destroy such a wonderful artistic work less than 24 hours after the inauguration ceremony. People should refrain from destroying gardens and the works of arts therein.”
According to Treasurer of Yarmouk Cooperative Society Faisal Al-Ansari, the act is completely absurd and unacceptable. He disclosed that everybody was delighted during the inauguration of the park some hours prior to the incident. “The society coordinated with the area’s mayor, KISR and Al-Wataniya Communications Company to ensure smooth completion of the project,” he asserted.
Yarmouk Mayor Abdul-Aziz Al-Meshari pointed out the youths living in the area are civilized, so he never expected anybody among them to carry out such an act. He revealed somebody saw some youths, aged 16-20, destroying the facilities but he could not confront them for fear of being attacked. He said the incident has been reported to the security authorities, so police officers will be patrolling the area to prevent the recurrence of the destructive action.
“We have contacted officials at the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) to elevate the fence surrounding the park as a precautionary measure. We are also in contact with the Information Ministry to initiate awareness campaigns to warn the youths against destroying public facilities,” he concluded.
