(KUNA) ACD follow-up plan discussed: Top officials are meeting in Kuwait Sunday to fine tune a joint proposal by Kuwait and Thailand over a mechanism that follow up functions of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), a senior Kuwaiti diplomat said.

Foreign Unsecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah said Thailand sponsored ACD for 10 years. However ACD witnessed a turning point when His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah called for an ACD summit.

Al-Jarallah, speaking to KUNA on sidelines of the top officials’ meeting, said His Highness the Amir’s patronage of the ACD summit “gave the Dialogue new dimensions and pushed it to new horizons which required a sustainable mechanism to follow up the functions of the Dialogue.” He said Kuwait proposed hosting the ACD Secretariat and the suggestion was widely welcomed by member states.

The final proposal will be tabled to ACD foreign ministers’ meeting in Tajikistan end of this month, said AlJarallah, and once approved it would be implemented immediately.

The gathering of the Asian countries within the ACD would give an impetus to the joint action of these states, he said. (KUNA)
