‘Boom in urological sector’
KUWAIT CITY, April 13, (KUNA): The Ministry of Health inaugurated on Saturday the eighth conference for urological surgery, themed “the neobladder,” with participation of 12 visiting doctors and specialists from the United States, Europe and Arab states.
Minister of Health, Dr Mohammad Barrak Al-Haifi, in an opening statement addressed on his behalf by Secretary General of Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization Dr Ibrahim Hadi, said the conference reflects Kuwait’s concern for continuing medical education and upgrading technical and professional performance of staff in the sector.
Conferees will address, in details, methods of diagnosis of illnesses in the neobladder, treatment with medication or surgery, he said, affirming significance of this issue, considering high number of car accidents that occur in Kuwait and cause defects to the neurological system that controls the bladder.
Chairman of Kuwait Urological Association Dr Adel Al-Hunayyan said the gathering constituted an addition to the “boom in the urological sector witnessed in Kuwait and an opportunity to examine latest medical recommendations in this respect and specialized scientific researches.” Damage in the neurological system attached to the bladder causes involuntary contractions, contraction in its size and recurrent urination. Some neurological illnesses, such as paralysis and Parkinson’s, lead to same results.
Elaborating, Dr AlHunayyan said such symp- toms could be treated with two methods; first behavioral such as minimizing intakes of liquids or medical with some injections and medications, Surgery is the last option and the patient must be informed about possible serious complications and sideeffects.
