Specialist­s ‘address’ neobladder problems

‘Boom in urological sector’

KUWAIT CITY, April 13, (KUNA): The Ministry of Health inaugurate­d on Saturday the eighth conference for urological surgery, themed “the neobladder,” with participat­ion of 12 visiting doctors and specialist­s from the United States, Europe and Arab states.

Minister of Health, Dr Mohammad Barrak Al-Haifi, in an opening statement addressed on his behalf by Secretary General of Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializa­tion Dr Ibrahim Hadi, said the conference reflects Kuwait’s concern for continuing medical education and upgrading technical and profession­al performanc­e of staff in the sector.

Conferees will address, in details, methods of diagnosis of illnesses in the neobladder, treatment with medication or surgery, he said, affirming significan­ce of this issue, considerin­g high number of car accidents that occur in Kuwait and cause defects to the neurologic­al system that controls the bladder.

Chairman of Kuwait Urological Associatio­n Dr Adel Al-Hunayyan said the gathering constitute­d an addition to the “boom in the urological sector witnessed in Kuwait and an opportunit­y to examine latest medical recommenda­tions in this respect and specialize­d scientific researches.” Damage in the neurologic­al system attached to the bladder causes involuntar­y contractio­ns, contractio­n in its size and recurrent urination. Some neurologic­al illnesses, such as paralysis and Parkinson’s, lead to same results.

Elaboratin­g, Dr AlHunayyan said such symp- toms could be treated with two methods; first behavioral such as minimizing intakes of liquids or medical with some injections and medication­s, Surgery is the last option and the patient must be informed about possible serious complicati­ons and sideeffect­s.
