Two citizens acquitted of possessing narcotic substances, drunk-driving
KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The Administrative Court, headed by Judge Ahmad Al-Deihan, has instructed the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor undersecretary to pay KD 3,000 to a supervisor as compensation for damages caused by a decision on the promotion of another supervisor in the same department where he works.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Attorney Abdul Muhsen Al-Qattan, said decision number 802/2010 was issued appointing the head of Jahra Labor Department to do the functions of his client, the supervisor of Evaluation and Follow-up Unit in the same department. He disclosed his client filed a petition against the decision which contravenes law number 25/2006 on promotion to supervisory posts but it was rejected.
Al-Qattan argued his client is qualified for the post considering his high academic qualifications and 12 years experience, in addition to fulfilling all conditions set forth in decision number 37/2006. 2 acquitted of drug use: The Criminal Court has acquitted two citizens of possessing narcotic substances for personal consumption, driving under the influence of alcohol and causing traffic jam.
Case files indicate a traffic officer on duty along King Abdulaziz Expressway noticed that the part of the road leading towards Ahmadi was jammed. He tried to find the cause of the congestion and found a vehicle parked in the middle of the road while the driver was inspecting the passersby.
The officer approached the latter to question him and he turned out to be drunk. He also observed the unusual behavior of the suspect’s companion who remained inside the car. He then inspected the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of an undisclosed quantity of hashish and amphetamine.
Meanwhile, lawyer for the accused, Attorney Hawraa Al-Habib, raised doubts on the testimony of the arresting officer. She demanded for the acquittal of her client due to the contradicting statements, illegal arrest procedures and lack of incriminating evidence.
After carefully weighing the pieces of evidence and arguments presented by both sides, the court acquitted the accused.
