WASHINGTON, April (RTRS): Quarterback Sanchez to the Tampa Buccaneers?
That’s the latest element in the marathon negotiations for cornerback Darrelle Revis between the New York Jets and the Bucs, according to a Friday report by ProFootballTalk.com.
The logic that alleges to give credibility to this notion is based on the Jets unloading Sanchez’ guaranteed $8.25 million for 2013, which does indeed make financial sense to the new Jets general manager, John Idzik. So from that perspective, the long, drawn-out talks over Revis may indeed have included the mention of packaging Sanchez in the deal.

But such a move might create more hardship than it is worth on both sides of the deal.
In Tampa Bay, coach Greg Schiano is admittedly not sold on Josh Freeman as his starting quarterback, but it may be a hard sell to consider Sanchez as the alternative.
In New York, that would leave the Jets with aging David Garrard, unproven Greg McElroy and Tim Tebow on the quarterback depth chart.
The Jets signed free-agent kicker Derek Dimke and punter Ryan Quigley, the team announced Friday.
Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu says he stopped counting all the drug tests he failed while in college.
Mathieu is visiting NFL teams ahead of the draft later this month to show he has cleaned up his act and that the talented from troubled player known as “Honey Badger” is worthy of being selected.
An NFL assistant coach who interviewed Mathieu said when he asked about the number of failed drug tests, Mathieu responded, “I quit counting at 10. I really don’t know.”
The Baltimore Ravens signed linebacker Rolando McClain to a one-year contract after he passed a physical, the team announced.
McClain, Oakland’s first-round draft in 2010, spent the first three years of his career with the Raiders, posting 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and 23 passes defensed.
Running back Bernard Scott visited Oakland this week to gauge the Raiders’ interest in him but decided to stay in Cincinnati and sign a oneyear deal with the Bengals.
Scott is recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in an Oct. 7 game against Miami.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jacoby Ford will not face DUI charges resulting from a March 14 traffic stop after the Alameda County (Calif.) District Attorney’s Office decided Thursday against pursuing the case.
Because the chargers were dropped, it’s unlikely that Ford, 25, will face punishment from the NFL. Ford missed the entire 2012 season with a left foot injury.
The Detroit Lions signed kicker Havard Rugland, according to the team’s website.
Anative of Norway, Rugland, 28, made a name for himself on YouTube, but he has no American football experience.
