Bhasin Cup enters 2nd week
36th Officers’ Badminton Tourney
KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The 36th Badminton Tournament dubbed “Officers’ Tournament — Bhasin Cup” organised by the Filipino Badminton Committee (FBC) entered its second week on Friday with so much action at the Umang Sports Club at Al-Jawhara School in Riggae. Despite the unavailability of the FBC’s home court at the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club in Hawally, the matches sizzled with the rising mercury signaling the advent of the summer season. The tournament is sponsored by the Bhasin Co WLL, SMDC Properties Division 2 Kuwait and AIM Global — Eagles Alliance Team.
Participants armed with the willpower and endurance emerged all set to topple the other players. Those who have shown great play during the first week did all their best to maintain their spot or even move to a higher notch. On the other hand, those who had sloppy performances last week seemed unstoppable for a good comeback this time.
The morning games were marked by exciting combinations of teams and individual matches. One of the highlights was the bombastic match between the teams of FBC founding Chairman Dr Chie Umandap and the group of FBC President Xilef Zenaseb. The match left all the spectators in sus- pense and brought everyone to laughter with their acrobats and antics during the game.
The afternoon games welcomed the new participants to the tournament, ushering in more breathtaking matches between teams and individuals that saw the shuttlecock swooshing from one court to the other.
Matches in the Class D or beginner’s category were heart-thumping similar to some championship games. Meanwhile, veteran players in the Class A and Class B were no holds barred in trying to beat their opponent by even diving on the floor just to ditch in the racket to scoop back the shuttlecock on air to the other court.
The results of the Friday matches of the 36th tourney will be posted on the group’s Facebook page this week.
