Saudi Arabia interested in scientific culture: Al-sweil

‘Confab first of its kind’

RIYADH, April 14, (KUNA): Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Dr Mohammad Al-Sweil said in Riyadh on Saturday the city attaches much attention to scientific culture and disseminat­ion of awareness of science and technology.

Opening an internatio­nal conference on scientific culture, organized by the Saudi city under the aegis of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Al-Sweil said the conference was the first of its kind in the kingdom in the field of scientific culture.

The conference is consistent with the kingdom’s national holistic plan for science and technology, purposed to boost scientific awareness as a necessity to help in finding social and environmen­tal awareness about scientific and technologi­cal issues, he said.

Saudi Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz said in a paper that KACST was playing a significan­t role in protecting and safeguardi­ng Arab and Islamic scientific heritage by means of attaching attention to the restoratio­n of manuscript­s.

He listed efforts for the disseminat­ion of scientific culture as publishing scientific books and magazines, holding exhibition­s and scientific workshops and writing simplified scientific and technologi­cal articles on independen­t scientific periodical­s. For his part, Saudi Minister of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology Mohammad Jameel stressed the role of scientific culture in developmen­t and renaissanc­e and reduction of scientific divide in human societies.

He pointed to the role of the digital world and culture in the promotion of scientific culture through easy access to valuable informatio­n.
