Saudi Arabia interested in scientific culture: Al-sweil
‘Confab first of its kind’
RIYADH, April 14, (KUNA): Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Dr Mohammad Al-Sweil said in Riyadh on Saturday the city attaches much attention to scientific culture and dissemination of awareness of science and technology.
Opening an international conference on scientific culture, organized by the Saudi city under the aegis of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Al-Sweil said the conference was the first of its kind in the kingdom in the field of scientific culture.
The conference is consistent with the kingdom’s national holistic plan for science and technology, purposed to boost scientific awareness as a necessity to help in finding social and environmental awareness about scientific and technological issues, he said.
Saudi Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz said in a paper that KACST was playing a significant role in protecting and safeguarding Arab and Islamic scientific heritage by means of attaching attention to the restoration of manuscripts.
He listed efforts for the dissemination of scientific culture as publishing scientific books and magazines, holding exhibitions and scientific workshops and writing simplified scientific and technological articles on independent scientific periodicals. For his part, Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Jameel stressed the role of scientific culture in development and renaissance and reduction of scientific divide in human societies.
He pointed to the role of the digital world and culture in the promotion of scientific culture through easy access to valuable information.
