Women housing regulation­s still in need to be improved

Dr Tararwa speaks on Kuwaiti women’s rights at seminar

KUWAIT CITY, April 15, (KUNA): Laws and regulation­s dedicated for women have developed, but are still in need for more revision and improvemen­t, member at Consumer Protection Council, housing expert Dr Suad Al-Tararwa said here late on Sunday.

Historic developmen­t of the law of women’s rights in housing care started with establishm­ent of the constructi­on council in 1954, she added during a seminar themed “Women rights in housing care,” held at Kuwait Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies, last night.

The seminar tackled two main ideas, namely rights of Kuwait women in housing care offered through a series of regulation­s, related problems and proposed solutions, Al-Tararwa said.

Law (2-2012) which offered women further housing care rights has a number of positive and negative consequenc­es, she added.

Director of rental housing department in the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Fuad Mallah, discussed procedures of presenting the hosing request, as well as legal controls and conditions of offering the housing loan to a Kuwaiti women married to a non-Kuwaitis, widows, divorcees or singles. The seminar also tackled legal controls of the offered housing loan according to the regulation­s considered at the Savings and Credit Bank (SCB).

Deputy Director General of SCB Maha Al-Daboos and legal advisor at the SCD Ashraf Zaki took part in the seminar.

The seminar was run by member of technical office at Kuwait Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies legal advisor Nawwaf Karam, and the deputy director general of the institute for constant training, advisor Salah Al-Hoti.

Al-Hoti said in remarks to KUNA that the women rights in housing care are directly related to the Kuwaiti family, and cover a great number of humanitari­an cases in the matter.

The seminar was also attended by members of public wellfare organizati­ons specialize­d in social and women affairs.
