KUWAIT CITY, April 15: The Fifth International Training Workshop for the officials from the concerned traffic and transportation authorities was launched under the patronage of Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud.

Several top officials attended the inauguration ceremony of the training workshop, which is due to conclude on April 17.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with a speech delivered by Assistant Director of Traffic Public Department for Planning Affairs Brigadier Saleh Al-Najim who said the Ministry of Interior has paid huge concern to the transportation sector of the country.

He clarified that the General Traffic Department exerts tremendous efforts in bolstering coordination with the concerned authorities to control the traffic problem in the country.

He emphasized the ministry’s keenness in closely following up on the traffic situation in the country in order to provide immediate and appropriate solutions for this problem that irks the entire society, particularly due to the large number of accidents and traffic jams that has paralyzed the country.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Governmental, Parliamentary, Public and Media Relations Department at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Sheikh Talal AlKhalid affirmed that developing the transportation sector is a key step for solving the traffic problem.

He said Kuwait is currently confronted with huge problems in the road networks, as the roads are unable to contain the increasing number of vehicles.

He stressed the necessity for tackling the traffic problem particularly since the authorities have adopted a strategic vision to convert Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub after HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad gave his directives in this regard.

In addition, the Permanent Representative of UN Development Program in Kuwait Stein Hanson has highlighted the major obstacles that impede the transportation system in the developing countries.

He indicated that a specific leap in the efforts exerted to handle the traffic problems in Kuwait through the implementation of priorities of the projects listed in the national developmental plan will be witnessed in the year 2013.
