BCG continues steady growth, opens 3 new offices

Firm generates $3.7 bln in revenue, up 9% y/y

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s leading management consulting firms, has announced that it recently opened three new offices-in Montreal, Seattle, and Bogotá-enlarging the firm’s global footprint to 78 offices in 43 countries.

The announcement follows a strong performance in 2012, when the firm generated $3.7 billion in worldwide revenue, up 9 percent over the previous year (in constant dollars). At the same time, BCG increased its global consulting staff by 11 percent, to 6,200.

“BCG’s strong, steady growth and our expanding global footprint are a real tribute to the talent of our people, especially in these uncertain times,” says Rich Lesser, who became the firm’s president and CEO in January. “Our consultants have an exceptional ability to work with clients to generate great value.”

Since 2002, BCG’s revenues have more than tripled. Lesser believes that the firm, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is well positioned to continue growing faster than its major competitors: “Along with strong hiring from our traditional sources, we are looking to recruit more people with industry and functional expertise at all levels.” In addition, each of the three new offices will bring fresh opportunities.

Montreal is BCG’s second office in Canada, after the one in Toronto, which opened in 1993. “This office builds on our strong Canadian client base, coupled with an exciting market with many important companies across many sectors,” Lesser says. “Montreal is also an important recruiting location for Frenchspeaking Canada.”

Seattle is a natural extension of BCG’s West Coast office system, which is rooted in Los Angeles and San Francisco. “Seattle offers a strong platform for developing deeper relationships with a host of current and prospective clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. We’re excited to have a more permanent presence in this large and growing market,” Lesser says.

Bogotá is BCG’s first office in Colombia, which has the third-largest economy in South America. “We have a great reputation in this dynamic region, thanks to our offices in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile,” Lesser says. “We look forward to serving a range of new clients.”

A continuous emphasis on developing and retaining talented people remains the firm’s key driver of success, Lesser stresses. As an example, he cites the firm’s consistently strong performance on third-party rankings, such as FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list: For the third year in a row, BCG ranked in the top five in 2013, placing fourth overall.
