Al Roomi, Al Khandari emerge top of respective groups

Qualifiers gear up for semifinal round

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: With the 3week long qualifying round of the 2013 Oscar Group Tenpin Challenge Bowling Tournament being held at the Cozmo Bowling Center finally over, the Top 20 qualifiers in Group 1 and 2 are now gearing up for the rigorous 8-game series semifinal round where the Top 6 will move on to the step ladder finals to vie for the coveted title. Taking home the Tournament High Series honors after emerging on top of their respective groups were Aseel Al Roomi in Group 1 and Ahmed Al Khandari in Group 2. The 4-day finals of this event sponsored by Brunswick and Platinum Phone Center will also see the qualifiers in Group Doubles and Mixed Doubles events contest the title and the prizes at stake.

In Group 1, the final qualifying round standings showed Kuwaiti kegler Aseel Al Roomi topping the leader board as expected with a total score of 2467 pin falls from his best sets of 502, 502, 492, 490 and 481 pin falls. Filipino pin buster Romy Fermil who rolled in 2-game series scores of (499, 490, 452, 431 and 413 was up next with 2335 followed closely by Iranian bowler Merhdad Tabibzadeh in third place with 2333 (477, 444, 443, 441, 438). Also making it to the next round where scores based on the caliber of the semifinali­sts are expected to soar, were Ayad Al Amiri2312, Fahad Ragheeb-2308, Abdulatif Al Omairi-2295, Salem Al Hajras-2278, Fahad Abul-2258, Mike Garcia-2254, Mohammed Ragjeeba-2243, Abdulaziz Al Shatti-2243, Ronnel Valencia-2235, Vernie Villaruel-2233, Khalid Qoud2210, Bader Omair-2201, Ibrahim Al jadi-2200, Mousa Abdullah-2196, Nawaf Al Hassan-2193, Mishary Al Fadhly2155 and Ali Mulla-2140. Salem Al Hajras grabbed the 3rd Weekly High Series plum with his20-game series score of 4367 pin falls while bagging both the Tournament and OGBL High Game was Merhdad Tabibzadeh who bowled a 279.

The lane assignment for the Group 1 semifinal round are as follows: Lane 1- Aseel Al Roomi/Aziz Al Shatti, Lane 2Romy Fermil/Ronnel Valencia, Lane 3Merhdad Tabibzadeh/Vernie Villaruel, Lane 4-Ayad Al Amiri/Khalid Qoud, Lane 5-Fahad Ragheeb/Bader Omair, Lane 6-Abdullatif Omairi/Ibrahim Al Jadi, Lane 7-Salem Hajras/Mousa Abdullah, Lane 8-Fahad Abul/Nawaf Al Hassan, Lane 9-Mike Garcia/Mishari Fadhly, Lane 10-Mohammed Rajeeba/Ali Mulla.

In the Group 2 side of the event, finishing at the helm of the standings was another Kuwaiti striker Ahmed Al Khandari who compiled a total score of 2143 pin falls taken from his highest sets of 452, 437, 420, 415, and 413. Just 2 pins down in second place was the lone American semifinali­st Glenn Corbitt with 2141 (452, 437, 420, 417 and 415) pin falls together with Mohammad Al Haddad who also booked a 2141 (419, 286, 393, 391 and 391) pin falls. Joining the top 3 bowlers of the group in the semis were Janet Shaikh-2073, Egay Cabildo-2058, Liza Catapia-2044, Pilar Villanueva-2037, Sonia Mathews-2031, Bobby Ferrera-2030, Naji Al Houli2020, Jane Nance-2006, Jhun Hosmillo19­88, Bert Pantanilla-1986, Lito Michael-1960, Rod Llait-1947, Chit Mariano193­8, Ricky Palabon-1935, Alfred Avila-1931, Dariel Cartas-1853 and Blanca Mercado-1832. Snatching the Weekly High Series prize was Mohammad Al Haddad who submitted a 10-game series tally of 4152 pin falls and pocketing the High Game was Glenn Corbitt who bowled a 264.

The lane assignment for the Group 2 semifinal round are as follows: Lane 1Ahmed Al Khandari/Jane Nance, Lane 2Glenn Corbitt /Jhun Hosmillo, Lane 3Mohammad Al Haddad /Bert Pantanilla, Lane 4- Janet Shaikh/Lito Michael, Lane 5- Egay Cabildo/Rod Llait, Lane 6- Liza Catapia/Chit Mariano, Lane 7- Pilar Villanueva /Ricky Palabon, Lane 8-Sonia Mathews/Alfred Avila, Lane 9-Bobby Ferrrera/Dariel Cartas, Lane 10-Naji Al Houli/Blanca Mercado.

After the 8-game series semifinal round, the Top 6 will advance to the step ladder finals. In Match 1 of the step ladder, finalists in position 4, 5 and 6 will play 1 game. The bowler with the highest score will move on to Match 2 against bowler in position 3 where the winner will face bowler in position 2 in Match 3. The winner of Match 3 will then play against the top finalist in the Championsh­ip Match. Top finalist is twice to beat.
