‘Deal step in right direction’

‘GCC miscalculated in ties with West’

-

“IT IS obvious at the moment there have been some attempts to redraw the map of coalitions and review the regional and international arrangements in this part of the world,” columnist wrote for daily Wednesday.

“As a matter of fact, this development is ‘very’ natural because in politics there is a rule which says ‘there are no permanent friends and no permanent foes’ but fixed interests.

“In this regard, we would like to point out that the change in the regional and international coalitions in this part of the world, doesn’t mean the United States of America and the West in general are determined to abandon the GCC countries for good as some people believe, because vital Western interests in this part of the world still exist.

“Such being the case, the rearrangement of the Western coalition in the region is aimed only at protecting Western interests in this part of the world pursuant to what has been dictated by the new changes currently battering the world represented by the choking capitalistic economic meltdown, and the retreat for oil significance for the US in addition to new changes which have surfaced in the Middle East represented by the Arab Spring revolutions whose furor has yet to die down.

“Moreover, these revolutions have pushed the entire region into an acute atmosphere and extreme difficult circumstances, the after effects of which have yet to be felt by some.

“It is needless to say the United States of America and the West in general have woven strategic relations with the GCC countries for the sake of their vital interests in this part of the world and as such it seems to be ‘very’ natural to see these relations changing to keep in line with the change in their interests.

“Meanwhile, it is also obvious that the natural wealth and financial resources of the region have depleted drastically since the beginning of the 1980s and this part of the world has now started witnessing many futile wars and this has resulted in our region being a focus of permanent tension as it struggles to serve the interests of the great capitalistic States.

“Such being the case, we suggest it is high time for our region to bask in peace and allow the countries of the region enjoy the wealth of their nations instead of this wealth finding its way into the weapons factories of the West.

“Consequently, we conclude that the recent deal between the G5+1 (the five permanent members in the UN Security Council + Germany) and Iran over the Iranian nuclear program, is a step in the right direction, because this development will help ease the tension in the Gulf region and eventually pave the way for peaceful neighborly relations among the countries situated along the two banks of the Gulf.

“In conclusion we say the GCC countries committed a gross mistake when they built their foreign policy on the basis of their ‘distinguished’ relations with the United States of America and the West, ignoring the fact that this international policy is governed by the interests.

“They failed to understand that this policy is like shifting sand not built on stability. However, it will be impossible to weave a strong foreign policy as long as the interior front is fragile, weak and incoherent.”

Also: “Those who believe that the Western-Iranian convergence will favor the Arab region are definitely mistaken. This is not a pessimistic vision because this is how the language of figures and the reality emphasizes,” columnist and professor at Kuwait University’s Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies

wrote for daily Wednesday. “The Western-Iranian convergence is an implicit Western recognition of the Iranian behavior in Iraq that may rise to the occupation of that country since Iran is currently building a strong army in a bid to export its revolution and persecute the Sunnis in Baghdad.

“Apart from the above, this deal between the West and Iran shall recognize the role of the Tehran in Lebanon and its attempts to occupy the entire country by imposing the logic of force.

“This development constitutes recognition of the Iranian role in Yemen and attempts by Tehran to establish an army for the Houthis. This role also strives to destabilize the Kingdom of Bahrain and build a welltrained army in Africa in a prelude to export their revolution to South East Asia and some other countries throughout the world.

“Moreover, we suggest the recent pact between the West and Iran shall help consecrate the occupation of the three UAE islands (Abu Mousa, the Greater and Lesser Tunb) in addition to the consecration of the Iranian persecution practiced on the Iranian Sunnis and the people of Baluchistan and those in Ahwaz province and others.

“Likewise, this agreement shall consecrate Iran’s right to carry out a nuclear program but under the supervision of the United Nations. It is needless this development shall pave the way for Iran to possess sophisticated weapons and become a great power in the Gulf region.”

“Irrespective of the excessively ludicrous comments and criticisms many people made about the recent Africa-Arab Summit hosted by Kuwait, the successful hosting in terms of excellent organization and arrangement has affirmed that decision is the only missing factor in Kuwait,” wrote for daily.

“The event took place after the country experienced several disappointments at various aspects including congestion, political and social unrests and so on. The country has now regained its past glory as a leading player in the region and among all Arab nations.

“HH the Amir had initiated in opening a new horizon of international cooperation for which delegations from a number of countries participated in laying down an important foundation for Kuwait to regain its rightful position in the international community.

“In summary, what is missing in Kuwait is determination and decision. According to a friend who was commenting about the summit, “Our people can do things right if they so wish because they know what to do and have the ability to do it right.”

“The practice of grilling prime ministers of the country started in the recent years when HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad ascended the grilling podium for the first time on December 8, 2009. The interpellation sessions of the premiers are usually quite different from the normal interpellation sessions. During the interpellation sessions of premiers, abuses, offensive phrases or even improper hints are not made against the prime minister,” wrote for daily.

“HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad ascended the grilling podium to face three inquests submitted by Faisal AlMislim, Musallam Al-Barrak, Jama’an Al-Harbash, Saleh Al-Mulla, Waleed Al-Tabtabaei and Mubarak Al-Walan who were all known for being serious and tough. However, the headlines of all newspapers agreed that the interpellations were excellent. Such a superior performance was repeated in the interpellation submitted by MP Saleh Ashour against HH Sheikh Jaber AlMubarak. We hope the lawmakers who have submitted grilling requests will also follow the same path of success.”

“Thank God Almighty that the activities of worthless individuals, the students of chaos and professional lawbreakers have mellowed down, such that the country has stabilized and the people now have normal lives,” wrote for

daily. “Thank God that Kuwait is returning to its natural way; where safety, security, agent of peace and love is the order of the day. Kuwait is working under the leadership of a diplomatic leader HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He has been playing the expected role of bringing all segments of the society together by ensuring a united front, in which brotherly relationship clearly manifests among members of this single family.

“He initiated stronger relationship with the GCC brothers to attain sustainable unity with the intention of providing secure, stable and bright living for the region. He took the initiative among his brothers, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz and His Highness Amir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani for the progress of the GCC and Arab nations. He realized the significance of the move during this crucial period when the entire Arab region is facing serious challenges.”

“Grilling request MPs Al-Tamimi, Al-Dowaisan and Al-Saleh have submitted against Minister Salem AlOthaina is purely sectarian, as the pivot says, ‘If you are ready to provoke chaos and start fire in the country because of unlicensed pre-fabricated tents, what would you do if an important incident took place?’,”

wrote for Arabic daily.

“In Kuwait, the rites of Ashoura are conducted peacefully inside houses and hussainiyas without noise, so what prompted you this time to perform the rites outside the hussainiyas?

“Nobody mocks you while you’re doing your rituals because we are all believers and with our own doctrines, but you should consider you are in a country that adopts Sunni doctrine. Therefore, you should not escalate the situation to provoke chaos since none of us is ready to burn a country that brings us together, based on a doctrine.”

“Minister of Health Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah managed to win the trust of the lawmakers efficiently as expected. The lawmakers have renewed their trust in the minister in order for him to resume his journey of hard work for improving the health services in Kuwait,” columnist

wrote for

daily. “Renewing the minister’s trust is part of their keenness in pushing the wheel of reform in the right direction without attempting to hinder improvement of the government’s work and this is the reason why the National Assembly foiled the attempt for a ‘no-confidence motion’.

“The team that is able and ready to confront or disprove interpellations requests was completely convinced that it is not afraid of anything to dodge confrontation because it did not violate the law.

“It is currently necessary to keep aside any discriminations and deviations in using the constitutional tool for achieving personal interests because such a tool is used for settling urgent problems and defects.”

“HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah deserves commendation for taking the initiative to host the Third Arab African Summit. This is considered his second initiative after the Asian Cooperation Dialogue. We hope the third initiative will push through - the Latin American Arab Summit,”

wrote for Arabic daily.

“We look forward to this kind of summit due to its economic importance. Any step towards the improvement of the economy and strengthening of international relations is welcomed. The concluding speech during the summit was a critical point, especially since it was about the loan granted to the African continent.

“First, we should prove that we are not giving money for nothing; although we appreciate the positions of the African countries during the Iraqi invasion. On the other hand, we can import natural resources like what China did in 2006. We can also develop the industrial sector to increase production and create job opportunities for the youths.

“In order to transform Kuwait into an industrial country, we should change our mentality on granting loans to other countries. The action should lead to strategic investments, while the work plans must be transformed into permanent cooperation based on mutual interests. Until that happens, we will continue giving pieces of advice because we are keen on pushing for the development of the country.”
