Seven fire-fighters hurt in rescue bid

KUWAIT CITY, May 11: Seven firemen sustained injuries as they struggled to rescue three children and an old man from a burning house in Jaber Al-Ali.

Firefighte­rs rushed to the location after the Operations Room at Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e received informatio­n on the fire outbreak. When they arrived at the scene, the fire already spread to the second floor of the house where three children and an old man were trapped. The firefighte­rs succeeded in rescuing them and none of them suffered from injuries.

The fire-out operation lasted for more than two hours due to certain difficulti­es faced by the firefighte­rs, seven of whom were injured and referred to Adan Hospital.

High-ranking officials were present at the site to supervise the fire-out and rescue operations. Initial investigat­ions revealed the fire started on the first floor of the house but the actual cause remains unknown. Investigat­ions in this regard are still ongoing. Arab expat held: Customs officers at the Nuwaiseeb border post have arrested a GCC citizen for attempting to leave the country on his brother’s passport, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to security sources the suspect carries a travel ban in connection with theft.

He has been handed over to the Criminal Investigat­ion Department. Arab assaulted: A Bedoun youth and his brothers were arrested for attacking an Egyptian expatriate in Farwaniya area.

According to security sources, an Egyptian expatriate filed a case at Farwaniya Police Station against a Bedoun youth, accusing the latter of attacking him during a quarrel between them in Farwaniya area.

While the case was being registered at the police station, securityme­n were surprised when the suspect and his brothers stormed into the police station and tried to attack the Egyptian expatriate. Securityme­n intervened to control them and arrested them.

They were detained for investigat­ions on the cause of the quarrel.

Meanwhile, three unknown individual­s stabbed a Kuwaiti citizen on his shoulder in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area.

He was referred to Farwaniya Hospital for treatment and securityme­n are carrying out investigat­ions to find and arrest the suspects.
