‘Kuwait ready to support Jordan for hosting displaced Syrians’

Al-Ma’atouq, on his part, voiced Kuwait’s keenness to further enhance relations with Jordan and praised the role played by the Kingdom in addressing the challenges facing the region, most notably the Syrian refugees.

Kuwait, he said, was ready to support Jordan in the developmen­t field, mainly in the northern regions that are hosting Syrian refugees, to ease the pressure they are facing.

Meanwhile, Prince Faisal underlined his country’s keenness to boost relations with Kuwait and expand the partnershi­p in various fields. He also voiced pride of the level of relations between the two countries and peoples.

The Regent highlighte­d the increasing burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees and the pressure they place on the Kingdom’s limited resources.

Prince Faisal also expressed Jordan’s appreciati­on of Kuwait’s continued support to the Kingdom in various fields, which enables it to address the challenges facing it, mainly in the economic field.

Meanwhile, Advisor at Kuwait’s Amiri Diwan Abdullah Al-Ma’atouq opened, in the presence of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind AlSabeeh, Kuwait’s second model village for the Syrian refugees in AlZaatari refugee camp in Al-Mafraq Governorat­e, north Jordan, on Saturday evening.

The village, funded by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, consists of 1,000 caravans, two schools - one for boys and another for girls, a hospital, and a mosque, said Al-Ma’atouq who doubles as chairman of the Internatio­nal Islamic Charitable Organizati­on (IICO).

“This is the second of the 10 model villages envisaged in a housing project; each of which will include 1,000 fullyequip­ped mobile homes for the Syrian refugees,” Al-Ma’atouq, also UN Secretary General’s Representa­tive for Humanitari­an Affairs, said in the opening ceremony He extolled His Highness the Amir for his generous contributi­on, and King Abdullah II of Jordan, for hosting the large numbers of Syrian refugees and facilitati­ng the IICO relief efforts in the kingdom.

Dr. Al-Ma’atouq added that the project reaffirms Kuwait commitment towards, and solidarity with “our Syrian brothers.

“We seek to alleviate their suffering from the current ordeal and share them the hope for their safe return to their homes,” he went on.
