Asian Air Safari stun No.1-ranked World Class

All Star Strikers outlast LEAF NFL Roundup

KUWAIT CITY, May 11: There are six weeks left to go before the PBAK Season3 finals and all teams are fiercely scrambling to secure a slot in the top 8 bracket. After posting the seventh round’s highest score at the on-going Philippine Bowling Associatio­n in Kuwait /Gulf Air 3rd Season League Team Tournament being held at Cozmo Bowling Center in Kheifan, Asian Air Safari butted into the “Magic 8” even as the race for the eight final berths remained bottleneck­ed half way into the eliminatio­n round.

Asian Air Safari made a big leap into the fray after flying high to stun no.1 ranked World Class team knocking them off their six week winning streak with the score of 2946-2689. Myra Manalo led the charge for Asian Air, scoring 212, 236, 167 (615) to average 205 per game, knocking off Michelle Avila (236-225) as the Ladies Individual High Game scorer and Mina Andaya’s (185.6182.42) Individual High Average lead.

Chris Bulacja was Air Safari’s other high scorer after Manalo with 203, 209, 191 (603) assisted by Lito Michael (518), Sonia Mathews (507), Mandy Manalo and Angelo Bautista. With the win, Safari gets catapulted from tenth to seventh position in the series. World Class who suffered its first defeat still stayed unscathed and firmly berthed at the top position with its 5-man team including Jason Baker (594), Dan Montano (517), Perla Montano (505), Gina Ashley (485) and Ted Ashley (474) hoping to stay tops to the very last game.

Playing without their agile lady bowler against powerhouse Z’CLAS Strikers, the Cozmo squad still managed to win the game by a hairline at 2706-2680. Having lost two games in the day, 856-907, 856-922 with a 117 pins deficit hanging over them, Cozmos fought like wounded lions, pushed on with their courage and bravery to win their final battle of the day 969-851 to register a 118 advantage. After the final tally of scores Cozmo won just one point (26812680) and grabbed the big 25 winning points.

The victorious Cozmo’s four bowlers were Farid Gabriel (630), Aldin Avila (559), Noe Mahayag, Russel Escarlan and Jun Husmillo. For Z’CLAS top scorers were Kiko Andaya (558) and Ferdie Saliba (549) supported by Alex Cervantes (491), Mina Andaya (464), Hermie Saliba and Neng Cervantes. The loss did not affect Z’CLAS’s standing as they managed to cling on to the second position.

Meanwhile, in the All Star Strikers and LEAF encounter, the later won the first game of the 3game series 949-886 but lost the second and third games to All Star Strikers, 982-832, 1013-918 culminatin­g in an overall score of 2906 - 2694.

The win-loss results put All Stars in a safer ground, leaping from number six to four while LEAF slided two notches from fourth to sixth. All Stars 5-man team were Mohannad Ebrahim (604), Anthony King (603), Nasha King (553), Marjorie Mercado (521), Hanadi Mezail and Bader Abdullah. For LEAF the highest scorer was Rocky Castil (557), followed by Cris Carungay, Rene Marzan, Blanca Mercado, Joe Presenta, Maricel Montero and Lito Mercado.

In other games at the Kheifan Cozmo Center Android Rollers outpaced Velocity Wonders 2687-2492 while Thunder Dragons thrashed undermanne­d Nusantara 26071920. Ahmadi King Pin outscored Swooping Eagles 2736-2709) while De Lima Blazers played bye and scored 2636.

Finally, the PBAK Executive Board extended its special thanks to Giordano’s Operation Manager Ibrahim Sheriff who gave away quality Long sleeves and T-shirts to high game points winners and runners ups in the Men and Ladies categories last Friday. The Board also acknowledg­ed main PBAK tournament sponsor Gulf Air whose Sales and Marketing Manager Ms Sandra Smith was around for a handshake. Other donors present at the Friday games included Dunkin Donuts and UAE Exchange whose officials Ahmed Hamed, Vivek and Renjith Pillai were present at the weekend’s games.

Sixteen seconds later, Plekanec was sent off again — this time for high-sticking. It only took 6 seconds into the power play for the Bruins to make it 3-0 as Jarome Iginla received a backhand crossing pass from Torey Krug and slapped a shot past Price.

Plekanec set up Brendan Gallagher to cut the deficit to two goals with 5:21 left in the second period, but Loui Eriksson snapped in the rebound of Matt Fraser’s shot with just under 6 minutes left in the game to make it 4-1.

Montreal pulled Price for most of the last 5 minutes, and P.K. Subban scored on a 6-on-4 power play, but the Canadiens could not get any closer.

Ducks 2, Kings 0 Meanwhile, Anaheim goaltender John Gibson made 28 saves in his dynamic NHL playoff debut, shutting out Los Angeles. Anaheim started its third goalie in three games with the dramatic entrance of Gibson, the 20-year-old American widely considered the best goaltendin­g prospect in hockey.

Gibson, who made his NHL debut late in the regular season, got the nod from coach Bruce Boudreau in place of veteran Jonas Hiller, who started the first two games against Los Angeles and finished Game 3 after Frederik Andersen injured his right leg.

The youngster coolly backstoppe­d the Ducks through the final 40 minutes, which were largely dominated by the Kings, who pushed in vain for a goal to get back in the contest. Both Anaheim goals came late in the first period.

Devante Smith-Pelly, who replaced injured Matt Beleskey on Anaheim’s top line, pushed past Drew Doughty into the Kings’ zone and converted a pass from Corey Perry.
