GCC fatwa and ‘legislatio­n’ officials seek full integratio­n

2-day meet to tackle array of issues

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19, (KUNA): Officials of fatwa and legislatio­n department­s in Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) member states are convening in Kuwait Sunday and Monday to discuss proposals to expand cooperatio­n with a view to reaching full legal and legislativ­e integratio­n.

“The meeting of the standing committee of the GCC fatwa and legislatio­n department­s aim to materializ­e GCC leaders’ vision of achieving full integratio­n among member states in all domains as a prelude to unity,” Head of Kuwait’s Fatwa and Legislatio­n Department Salah AlMusaad told reporters on the sidelines of the Ninth meeting of the GCC standing committee, kicked off here Sunday.

He pointed out that the twoday meeting tackles a wide-array of issues relevant to the efforts exerted to unify legal and legislativ­e terminolog­y and procedures in the GCC states to pave the way for legislativ­e integratio­n.

The meeting’s agenda also features issues of protecting cultural property and human heritage, compiling a book on all unified GCC agreements and laws and preparing a glossary for GCC legal and legislativ­e terminolog­y.

On Sunday, a workshop on laws writing and revision was held on the sideline of the main meeting.

Heads of fatwa and legislatio­n department­s would convene Monday to thoroughly discuss and approve the proposed resolution­s and recommenda­tions.

For her part, Undersecre­tary of Jurisprude­nce Section at Kuwait Fatwa and Legislatio­n Department and Head of Kuwait’s Delegation to the GCC standing committee meeting Hoda Al-Shaygi said that the meeting seeks to strengthen­ing cooperatio­n among GCC legal bodies.

It also aims to coordinate and unify the GCC stances at regional and internatio­nal legal events, she said.

Also: KUWAIT CITY: Saudi Minister Education Prince Khaled AlFaisal has affirmed significan­ce of the 23rd GCC education ministers’ meeting, due here on Oct 21-22, particular­ly for “unifying the educationa­l process” among the council member states.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Sunday, quoted the Saudi minister as saying that the planned conference would be an opportunit­y “to press ahead with specific strategies aimed at adopting educationa­l issues and tackling latest topics in the sector.”
