KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Nine Indians, who were in police custody following the death of an Egyptian at the Camels Market last August during a brawl between the workers of a contracting company, have been granted bail by a court in Kuwait.

An Indian Embassy source said, in addition to this, five Indians were earlier interrogated and released by the Public Prosecution, citing lack of evidence.

However, all 15 men have been banned from travel until a final verdict in the case is issued.

Earlier it was reported a brawl between Indians and Egyptians had left one Egyptian dead and several others injured from both sides and some Indian newspapers then quoting unnamed sources in Kuwait said the man had died of cardiac arrest during the fight.

It all reportedly started when some Egyptians refused one of the Indians to occupy a vacant seat on the company transport bus while they were on their way home after duty hours.

The Egyptians reportedly beat two Indians on the bus and when the vehicle reached their residence in the camp, both sides attacked each other with whatever they could lay their hands on after the issue was blown out of proportion by both sides.

About 30 people — Indians and Egyptians — were injured and some with fractures and stab wounds were referred to the Jahra, Sabah and Farwaniya hospitals.

All those arrested were referred to the concerned security department for interrogation following which the Indian government took up the issue with Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Kuwait has been closely following up the developments and providing all possible assistance in line with the law of the land.

Agencies add: Peddlers held: The Jahra police have arrested two Indians for trading in locallymanufactured booze and referred them to the General Department for Drugs and Alcohol Control, reports AlWatan Arabic daily.

The daily added, the Indians were stopped by patrolmen because they looked nervous when they saw a police car.

Police have reportedly seized 4 cartons containing 45 polyethylene bags filled with local booze.

Gamblers

caught: The Ahmadi police have arrested 12 Asians for gambling in an open area at an unidentified location, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

They have been referred to the concerned authorities to prepare their deportation. Actresses fight: Two-well known actresses were involved in a fight inside a restaurant in Salmiya, reports Al-Shahed daily.

A police source said this happened when a producer invited the two women for dinner at a restaurant which ended in a dramatic fashion.

According to eyewitnesses they were involved in an argument, which developed into a fight and one of them stabbed the other in the left arm with a knife.

Police rushed to the restaurant but they failed to find the women.

One of them who was injured has filed a complaint with the Salmiya Police Station and submitted a medical report to substantiate her claim.

Hoax-caller

nabbed: Police have arrested an unidentified Kuwaiti for making a hoax call and disturbing police, reports Al-Shahed daily.

A security source said the man called the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry and said a time bomb would go off inside the Jaber Stadium.

Police patrols and bomb disposal experts rushed to the Stadium but found no explosive device.

Police arrested the caller who appeared disoriented.
