Congrats to Amir: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah on Sunday received a cable of congratula­tions from GCC culture ministers on naming His Highness the Amir a “Humanitari­an Leader” and Kuwait a “Humanitari­an Center” by the United Nations on September 9 in New York.

The GCC ministers of culture are here to attend their 20th meeting. In their cable, they said the UN initiative is a translatio­n of the great positions adopted by His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait on the humanitari­an and developmen­t level.

They also thanked His Highness the Amir for warm welcome and hospitalit­y, wishing him well-being and Kuwait more developmen­t and prosperity. (KUNA) Rumors rejected: Undersecre­tary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Khalid Al-Jarallah denied recent rumor saying Kuwait will reopen its diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital Damascus, stressing the informatio­n is untrue and baseless, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a statement to the daily, Al-Jarallah said it’s impossible for Kuwait to reopen its diplomatic mission in Damascus under the current volatile situation there, and especially after the mission was closed earlier to protect diplomats. He denied knowing about Kuwait’s approval to reopen the Syrian Embassy in the country. Many get ‘sacrifice’ meat: Board Chairperso­n of Abdullah Al-Noori Charitable Society Jamal Al-Noori has confirmed success of the 2014 Sacrificia­l Lamb Project through the help of donors, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Noori revealed 230,000 beneficiar­ies from 26 countries benefited from the project with an estimated cost of $737,000. He asserted the society has taken the initiative to create a pathway towards fraternity between the rich and poor. He said the society has succeeded in providing assistance to a number of needy people. MEW to float tender: The Ministry of Electricit­y and Water (MEW) has obtained approval from the Central Tenders Committee to float a tender for the constructi­on of buildings for electricit­y and waterrelat­ed emergencie­s and consumer affairs in Shuwaikh and Salmiya, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources from the ministry.

Sources confirmed the ministry intends to invite local companies to bid for these projects whose total cost is estimated at KD4 million.
