Kuwait to host Futsal Continental Cup

8-day competition starts Oct 23

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Kuwait is set to host the Futsal Continental Cup 2014 tournament, an 8-day Futsal competition starting from Oct 23 involving eight top footballpassionate nations — Brazil, Argentina, Guatemala, Egypt, Japan, Italy, the Czech Republic and host Kuwait.

The eight teams represent the world’s top five continental football organizing bodies- UEFAEurope, CONMEBOL — South America, CAF —Africa, CONCA- CAF — Latin America and AFCAsia.

The FIFA sanctioned 5-aside tournament will kick off with a Wednesday evening official opening ceremony at the tournament play venue — Qadsiya Sports Club in Hawally, central Kuwait.

The official draw however will be held on Tuesday at the same venue followed by a team managers’ conference scheduled at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the next day, Wednesday.

There’d be two matches played on each of the two venues on the opening day, Thursday, Oct 23 for groups A & B and another four scheduled for Friday, Oct 24. The last group level matches will be played Saturday, Oct 25 to pave the way for a quarter-final line-up of the teams.

Players and officials take a well deserved break Sunday, Oct 26 to rest, practice and strategize, and then return to the pitch the next day for two semi final clashes that would culminate in a Tuesday, Oct 28 final match to determine the Continental Futsal champion for the year 2014.
