Italian police detain wanted terror suspect
ROME, April 6, (AP): Italy’s interior minister says anti-terrorism police near Venice have detained a Turkish fugitive named in an international warrant as a terrorism suspect.
Minister Angelino Alfano said Turkish authorities contend that the 44-year-old man belongs to DHKP-C, a banned left-wing group that Turkish officials allege recently took a prosecutor hostage in an Istanbul courthouse. That hostage-taking ended in a shootout with police. The prosecutor was slain.
Alfano said Monday the man, who has Austrian citizenship, was lodging in Italy with his Austrian wife and children and is being held for eventual extradition.
