Kuwait-Luxembourg talks aim to strengthen bilateral co-op
MPs, Azeri minister discuss expertise exchange
BRUSSELS, May 2, (KUNA): Kuwait’s ambassador to the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg Dharar Abdul Razzak Razzooqi will hold a series of meetings with government officials and parliamentarians in Luxembourg Monday aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation.
Razzooqi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Saturday that he will discuss bilateral ties, regional issues and the importance of Luxembourg within the EU during his two-day meetings on Monday and Tuesday.
He noted that Luxembourg is supporting Kuwait for the lifting of Schengen visa.
The Kuwaiti ambassador is expected to meet Director for Political Affair at the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry Jean Olinger, head of protocol Sandra Thein and director of international relations and economic and European fairs Gaston Stronck.
He will also hold talks with speaker of the chamber of deputies Mars Di Bartolomeom and chair- man of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the chamber of deputies.
Razzooqi said he will brief them on the situation in the region including developments in Yemen, Iraq, Iran Syria, the Middle East Peace Process.
The two countries will also discuss the formation of a joint committee that will promote economic and political issues, investments and education.
Razzooqi hoped that this committee will be ready for Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah AlKhaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to put his signature to it when he comes to visit Belgium.
Elsewhere, a Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation, headed by MP Saud Al-Huraiji, held talks on Saturday with the Azeri deputy emergency minister, Itbar Mezrov, as part of the MPs’ ongoing mis- sion in Azerbaijan.
Shehab Al-Enezi, in charge of international affairs of the parliamentary friendship group, told KUNA by telephone that the two sides discussed expertise exchange in various spheres.
The Azeri official briefed the Kuwaiti lawmakers about the department’s tasks. They also viewed a film about the country’s emergency works, and called for establishing cooperation between the two countries at the levels of coping with catastrophes and aiding the afflicted.
On Friday, the delegation met with Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov who commended the developed relations between the two countries, welcoming the visit of Kuwaiti MPs.
The delegation asked Azerbaijan to support Kuwait’s bid to get a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2018-19.
The visiting group of Kuwaiti lawmakers, headed by Al-Huraiji, includes MPs Mohammad AlEnezi, Dr Ahmad Al-Azmi, Hamdan Al-Azmi, Humoud AlHamdan and Mohammad AlHadiya.
