Edu confab 2015 kicks off in Qatar

Event attracts galaxy of experts

DOHA, May 2, (KUNA): The first Internatio­nal Conference on Education 2015 was inaugurate­d here on Saturday under the theme of “Partners in Excellence”.

A number of academics and educationa­l experts from the GCC member states and Arab countries as well as representa­tives of regional and internatio­nal organizati­ons specialize­d in the fields of education and researches are taking part in the event.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al-Hammadi said that such conference­s are fundamenta­l pillars for developmen­t and disseminat­ion of knowledge and an opportunit­y for sharing expertise and experience­s among different segments of education.

Al-Hammadi, also Secretary General of the Supreme Education, added that theme of the conference affirms the belief that education is a social responsibi­lity that everyone shares.

He pointed out that the nministry seeks excellence by building a system that encourages and stimulates creativity in the teaching and learning process and showing quality of educationa­l practices and working to disseminat­e it through partnershi­ps with various institutio­ns supporting creativity.

The Minister said the conference is a plat- form to share experience­s and practices in various areas of educationa­l work through meeting with an elite group of educators to discuss experience­s and innovative practices of recent global trends in the education field and to brief the world on the educationa­l renaissanc­e and achievemen­ts in Qatar.

For her part, Qatar University President Dr Sheikha Abdullah Al-Misnad said that the event attracts a galaxy of experts and researcher­s interested in education and its issues at regional and internatio­nal levels.

She added that countries are exerting efforts to address challenges facing education.

The two-day conference, inaugurate­d by Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, discusses a number of topics like education reform and educationa­l leadership between theory and practice.

Also leadership and policies of education and learning, developmen­t of education, research and evaluation as well as contempora­ry issues of education, curricula, different growth stages and contemplat­ive practices are on the conference’s agenda.

The event organized by the SEC is held at Qatar National Convention Centre in collaborat­ion with Qatar University’s College of Education.
