‘Memory Man’ soars to top of bestseller­s

NEW YORK, May 2, (Agencies): David Baldacci’s new book, “Memory Man” bumped Nora Roberts’ “The Liar” from the No. 1 spot on the US bestseller­s list on Thursday.

Data from independen­t and chain bookstores, book wholesaler­s and independen­t distributo­rs across the United States is used to compile the list.

The letter, dated April 26 and shared Wednesday with The Associated Press by signee Jon Wiener, follows PEN’s announceme­nt last weekend that six out of 64 table hosts for the literary and human rights organizati­on’s May 5 gala were withdrawin­g. The protesting writers, who also include Michael Ondaatje and Peter Carey, have cited what they consider Charlie Hebdo’s offensive cartoons of Muslims. PEN is awarding Charlie Hebdo a freedom of expression prize after the magazine’s Paris offices were the site of a deadly January shooting.

Sentinel, a conservati­ve imprint of Penguin Random House, announced Wednesday that it will be releasing “A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constituti­onal Liberties” on Oct 6. Last year, Carson’s “One Nation” was a bestseller on numerous lists, including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

According to Sentinel, Carson’s new book will discuss the “basic principles” of the Constituti­on and how “they relate to our everyday lives.”
