MAKULAY to mount 7th Art Exhibition ‘Hubog’
Artworks to depict Philippines struggle for independence ALLFIL-OK
The
Malikhaing Kulturang Layag (MAKULAY), a Filipino artist group aims at promoting the advancement and excellence of every Filipino artist in Kuwait in the fields of painting, sculpture, digital and photography, illustration and performing arts held its annual general assembly on Friday to elect its new set of officers and discuss preparations for the upcoming 7th Art Exhibition dubbed “Hubog: Ibatibang hugis ng kalayaan noon at ngayon” in commemoration of the 117th Philippine Independence Day in June.
The art exhibition in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy and Alliance of Filipino Organizations in Kuwait (ALLFIL-OK) will showcase various artworks depicting the Philippines struggle for independence from the Spanish colonial rule to June 12, 1898. The group’s thrust is to promote cultural exchange and understanding as well as organise socio-civic and charity events to help distressed Filipinos in Kuwait as well as in the Philippines.
Imagination
“Hubog which means form or shape in English depicts different forms, curve or shape, or to create an art form from our imagination and use our creativity to communicate concepts of freedom and the Philippine’s rich history, culture and tradition and come up with a masterpiece,” explained MAKULAY treasurer Angel Ali?o who conceptualised the theme.
MAKULAY members will be using various forms of media and art techniques for the exhibition from abstract, surrealism to realism as well as photography. “Sky is the limit. They can use fabric, mixed media, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink or graphite. The exhibition is open to all subject matter in any media in any style as long it is related to our Philippine culture and heritage,” outlined MAKULAY co-founder and Admin Dave Constantino.
Meanwhile, MAKULAY held its election of new set of officers for 2015-2016 and Romano Roman was re-elected as President along with Vice President Rolly Patilla, Adminco-founder Dave Constantino, Secretary Dulce Dela Cruz, Treasurer Angel Arceo Alino, Auditor Sheila Frank, Performing Arts Director: Jumel Carvajal, Creative Director Fred Balleras, Screening Directors Rene Alster Olivar and Odil Antigua, Cultural Artist Alexander Xerxes Marban and Cultural Arts Coordinator: Editha Viva Labis.
MAKULAY has successfully organised charity and socio-civic activities in the past benefiting some of those in need not only here in Kuwait but in the Philippines. The group also provides its members an opportunity to display their arts in the community and educate them through workshops, seminars and tutorials.
