Mosque blast victims officially ‘Martyrs of Kuwait’

League condemns

KUWAIT CITY, June 29, (KUNA): Based on His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah’s directives considerin­g Friday blast as an extraordin­ary public incident and its victims as martyrs, the Cabinet has entrusted the Martyr’s Office at the Amiri Diwan to take the necessary measures to honor families of the deceased.

Some 27 people, including the bomber, were killed and 227 others wounded in the terrorist attack that hit Imam AlSadiq Mosque in Kuwait City during Friday noon prayer. Victims will now be comprised on the list of “Kuwaiti Martyrs.” During its weekly routine meeting at Seif Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad AlSabah, the Cabinet boasted the synergy and national unity manifested by Kuwaitis and expats in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, said Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

The plight has demonstrat­ed solidness and capability of the Kuwaiti society to counter such conspiraci­es seeking to foment discords and incite division and sectariani­sm amongst its members, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah added.

The Cabinet urged Kuwaitis to join forces against whosoever might target their unity or tamper with the country’s security and stability.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled AlHamad Al-Sabah briefed the meeting on the hard efforts by the security agencies which led to uncovering perpetrato­rs of the heinous attack.

The ministry had managed to reveal the identity of the suicide attacker and the man who drove him to the blast site.

Sheikh Mohammad AlKhaled concluded by warning “to cut hands that attempt to tamper with security of the nation.” He stressed that Kuwait will always remain “an oasis of security and safety for whosoever lives on this blessed land.” Meanwhile, the Cabinet commended the persistent efforts by the security bodies and members led by Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled for maintainin­g security and stability in the country.

The ministers also lauded efforts by the Ministry of Health, as well as private hospitals providing due medical for the wounded of the Friday incident.

In addition, the meeting paid tribute to the distinguis­hed work by the Ministry of Informatio­n that provided around-theclock live and comprehens­ive coverage of the incident, conveying a message of assurance to the Kuwaiti society and urging people to stand against attempts of terrorism and sectariani­sm.

The Cabinet expressed gratitude to the world countries that condemned the terrorist attack and expressed solidarity with Kuwait, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs said.

Today’s meeting reaffirmed utter rejection by the Kuwaiti society to the abnormal practices committed by “outlaws” of true Islam and its values. It also emphasized determinat­ion to eradicate deviant groups and deter whosoever might target “dear Kuwait’s” security and stability.

The Cabinet urged closer cooperatio­n with the security agencies to counter such cowardly attempts.

On the other hand, the Cabinet welcomed a fraternal visit to be paid by Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Kuwait later today.

The Cabinet also mourned the death of Chairman of the State Audit Bureau Abdulaziz Al-Adsani, who passed away last Thursday.

Also during the meeting, the ministers condemned the recent terrorist attack in Tunisia, which led to the death and injury of several people, along with the bomb attack on Egyptian Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat.

The Cabinet reiterated Kuwait’s rejection of all terrorist acts that run counter with all human values and norms.

Elsewhere, the permanent delegates to the Arab League condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Kuwait and Tunisia during the League’s emergency meeting held in Cairo, on Monday.

The delegates expressed their full support to the two countries, along with the UAE whose humanitari­an aid team was attacked in Somalia, and Egypt whose public prosecutor Hisham Barakat was killed earlier today.

Jordan supports the terror-struck countries by all means, said head of the meeting and Jordanian Ambassador to Egypt Beshir Al-Khasawneh in his opening speech.

The Jordanian diplomat also called on the Arab League to take measures to fight terrorism and support the attacked countries.

For his part, Secretary-General of the League Nabil Al-Araby on his part, said that the meeting aims to discuss the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Kuwait, Tunisia, Somalia and Egypt.

Al-Araby also condemned the criminal acts, noting that these terrorist groups are targeting the unity and stability in the region.

Moreover, he pointed to a proposal approved in the League’s last summit in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt for establishi­ng a joint Arab force as part of cooperatio­n in the fight against all terrorist groups in the region.
